FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

So they are moving some poor neighborhoods -subsidized apartments and old townhomes--out of CVHS and into Westfield. The FARMs rate at CVHS will go down significantly. For Westfield, if they don't keep part of Floris, their FARMs rate will be increased. It is already higher than neighboring schools. Seems like Westfield is the loser here.

Are they also moving all those Centreville kids from Liberty to Stone?

Scenario A:

* Centreville enrollment declines from 2310 to 1957. Bull Run area at Centreville moves to Westfield.
* Chantilly enrollment declines from 2916 to 2225. Oak Hill moves to Western and parts of Brookfield and Cub Run move to Westfield
* Oakton enrollment declines from 2601 to 2165. Navy island and Oakton part of Crossfield move to Western.
* Westfield enrollment declines from 2710 to 2407. Coates, Floris, and McNair move to Western and parts of Centreville and Chantilly move to Westfield (described above).
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 1792

Scenario B:

* Centerville - same as Scenario A
* Chantilly - same as Scenario A
* South Lakes enrollment declines from 2410 to 2040. Fox Mill moves to Western
* Westfield - same as Scenario A
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 1726

Scenario C:

* Centreville - same as Scenario A
* Chantilly - appears same as Scenario A but FCPS shows enrollment declining to 2218
* Oakton - same as Scenario A
* South Lakes enrollment declines from 2410 to 2002. Fox Mill and South Lakes part of Crossfield move to Western
* Westfield enrollment declines from 2710 to 2472. Coates, McNair, and part (but not all) of Floris move to Western
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 2142

Scenario D:

* Centreville - same as Scenario A
* Chantilly - same as Scenario C
* Oakton enrollment declines from 2601 to 2239. Oakton part of Crossfield (but not Navy island) moves to Western.
* South Lakes - same as Scenario C
* Westfield - same as Scenario C
* Western 9-12 enrollment: 2068

^ Also, under Scenarios C and D Westfield continues to pick up the areas from Centreville and Chantilly described under Scenario A.

Part of Floris, I think.

Look like it's the Discovery Square neighborhood

It leaves one neighborhood (portion of Floris) north of 50 at Westfield--the closest neighborhood to KAA. That's kind of crappy for them.

When it all shakes out, I bet brookfield and that part of cub run get themselves moved back into CHS.

It would make more sense to make that island Oak Hill/Franklin/Western HS than keep them Navy/Franklin/Oakton while the rest of the neighborhood goes to Western HS. People with kids at Navy now/who went there recently want to keep things as is but it stinks for future kids to be an island at every school level.

They need to make that island Crossfield like the rest of Franklin Farm. I have no idea why it was ever zoned to Navy in the first place.

I don't think so. I think they will leave that as is and take the opportunity to put everyone at Greenbriar East that is west of FFX Co Pkwy at Rocky Run/Chantilly (similar to map 4).

That’s the one a lot of Oakton parents probably want. But it splits Fox Mill Estates between South Lakes and the new school right? They will not like that.

No, what you mean is that is the one the Crossfield parents with older kids who want to stay at Oakton want. We are a Crossfield/Oakton family and like every option except B. Oakton will be overcrowded by the next 5 year cycle if they don't do something. Moving Crossfield now at least gets us into KAA. Otherwise I think we'll have to be moved to South Lakes instead in 5 years because there won't be room anywhere else. I don't want to deal with IB and deciding whether or not to pupil place my kids away from their friends.

Yes, we are also a Crossfield family who wants to move to KAA - the drive to Oakton is brutal and it's very crowded. Frankly, the only people we know that want to stay at Oakton have high schoolers. FCPS should absolutely not make this decision based on people who have kids who can grandfather into Oakton. They should talk to families with younger kids - everyone we know with younger kids is excited about KAA. I grew up in a community where everyone from our ES went to the same middle and high school and I really want that for my kids. I didn't realize when we bought this house that Crossfield kids were the only ones that went to Carson then Oakton. KAA is MUCH closer to our home.

They are moving far more high FARMS out of Westfield than you realize. Coates and McNair more than make up for what you get from Floris. And, Coates is a very large school.

Thanks for posting this summary.
One caveat: be careful and use these Scenarios only for reference here on DCUM. A community member on Nextdoor also posted maps, but in a different order.
So, only for discussion here should we assume that the Scenarios are as posted (A-D). They could be reversed elsewhere.

What is the FARMS rate at Western High going to be? What about the ESL rate?

They're worried about more than this. Western will have a much higher FARMS rate than Oakton.

They might even just move all of GBE to Rocky Run/Chantilly but it's likely way too many kids.

Well, with the multiple maps for the all county boundaries, it seems like people who complained got what they wanted.
