Yep. Confirmed. Helos must fly at OR below 200ft through that route. Major mistake #1. Other mistakes were likely also factors, however but for mistake #1, 67 people would still be alive. |
| Poster 20:55 et al, if you haven't already try Gravelly Point. It's such a lovely place to watch as planes come in and out at DCA, trail, green space, and there's parking. Haven't been yet since this news but if it is open that area to public, you could try laying flowers or spending a few minutes there. |
I do believe that park is closed during the recovery operation. |
What is weird from the videos, and i could be totally wrong, is that the helo was flying straight towards the plane for several seconds. So the 1000 hour white make pilot got it wrong (too?). It wasn't a sudden manuever by the pilot that put the Helo in the plane's path. |
"Fly towards the light!" |
Many pilots on youtube have stated that until the plane turned it they would have been flying straight at each other and that in the dark it's very hard to see with all of the city/urban lighting. People accustomed to night flying in cities seem less suprised by this than the rest of us. The video pp posted a few pages back explains what I'm talking about. |
Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe he instructed the pilot to decrease altitude or change course and they didn’t/couldn't/wouldn’t in time. How much time elapses between the contact with ATC and the crash? |
|
People please watch this or one of the other great explanation videos posted before asking any more questions. Most of your questions will be answered.

Thank you very much. I’ve heard it is really nice. Saw the other post that it is closed now but I imagine a memorial may open up there at some point and I will certainly go. Thanks again. |
But … but …it’s common sense ….. |
They were initially told about the inbound plane approaching runway 33 several minutes before the crash. |
Guy in the back does visuals. Pilots are looking at controls and gauges. They literally say: going inside (to do something); going outside (to look) |
Yeah that didn’t register with anyone. The shortest, least used one. And there are only three runways. |
| Now hearing that the ATC scopes showed a Collision Avoidance alarm for 16 seconds before impact. Count that out. And the. Ask if having half the number of controllers is a good idea. |
Yeah. Saudi (and China) government has bought a lot of US real estate and we should really have rules about this. It’s seriously inflating our housing costs. |
