FCPS Skyview Boundary Revised Scenario 1 / 2

Anonymous
Anonymous wrote:I’m happy about this new scenario except for two things.

1. Walney Oaks staying at Rocky Run/Chantilly instead of going to Stone/Westfield
2. The Trinity Parkway island going from Liberty/Centreville to Stone/Westfield when it is geographically (by roads) isolated from Westfield compared to the contiguous part of Bull Run ES.

These two things upset me because it transfers less students into Westfield and isolates Walney Oaks from the part of Brookfield to Westfield, and moves an established Centreville community to Westfield.

Moving Bull Run (contiguous) makes more sense than moving trinity island which involves a longer bus ride down 29 up Stone Road to Westfield Road to Stonecroft compared to a drive down Trinity Parkway to Machen Road or Centrewood Drive to New Braddock Road and Union Mill Road.

And with Centreville’s renovation to 3,000, it could accommodate Willow Springs, Eagle View, and the Fairfax portion of Powell.

Think bigger FCPS.

You would have to be quite a pig to think Centreville should still be expanded to 3000 with the addition of Skyview and the excess capacity that will exist for some time at Skyview, Westfield, South Lakes, and Herndon.

Using Crossfield as the starting point is bogus. No one going to Carson lives that far.

And, the time--using express lanes is 15 minutes.
Eight minutes to Carson.

And, most of the population lives closer to Carson than that intersection.

He must be getting pushback from some Crossfield people now.

This tells me that Meren is putting pressure on him now. She's had a year to do that.

LOL. No.

Meren doesn't want to confront RIO moms nor she is in a position to put pressure on McDaniel.

McDaniel's email is basically his excuse/rationalization of changing his earlier position. The final scenario is his baby. He is not going to materially change it.

If anything mcdaniel just shut off any attempt Meren might make to swap Crossfield for Fox mill into Skyview, or any attempt to move Fox mill out of going to Skyview at all.

Exactly.

This is too obvious. McDaniel has zero reason to listen to Meren.

And it's not like Meren has any alternative proposal. She never said Crossfield should be moved to Skyview.

All she wanted to do was slow down the process and complain, because she doesn’t know how to protect SLHS without angering the RIO moms at the same time.

The RIO moms are not Meren's constituents. There may be a couple of them, but almost all of Crossfield/Oakton is in Sully---not Hunter Mill. There could be a handful, but not enough to sway a Hunter Mill election.

Oh I know most of RIO families is in Sully.

But Meren doesn't want to fight a well organized powerful group like the RIO. To be fair, most school board members don't.

The whole RIO thing is just disgustingly insane, but the ship has sailed, I guess...

There is supposedly something planned relating to Centreville for Board action on June 25th, but it may just relate to leasing arrangements with the county and not the scope of the renovation. Expanding it to 3000 is absurd.

If the plan is one middle school feeding each high school. Probably need the money to expand Stone, Liberty and potentially Franklin.

○ Gifts/Plaques - $1050
● Expenses for Incoming SBMs:
○ Swearing In Ceremony - $1,000
○ Swearing In Reception - $4,500
○ Orientation Lunches - $2,000 ($500/day)
○ Refresh tech budgets and tech fee - $100,2000
○ Misc. Needs (i.e. nameplates, business cards, grad regalia, etc.) for New SBMs - $3,600
($600/SBM)
○ Misc. Needs for Returning SBMs/SB in General: $712
● Expenses for New SBM Staffers: $29,400 ($2,450/new staffer) - this is

You realize buses follow a route... They go to different neighborhoods both towards and away from the assigned school and even backtrack.

And it's stupid to use the bus routes as the gauge. Especially when so many kids have after school activities and so many kid drive themselves to and from school. They should have taken that into account too. My kid was hoping for Skyview solely because he knows that I could come pick him up after practice or another activity and only be away from my laptop for 20 minutes as opposed to Oakton where I'll be away almost an hour. He's just going to have to suck it up and wait for his dad to get him on his way home from work now. Oh well

So how do we organize a recall of Dixit? Can we FOIA her emails and phone records to start? I realize it may not be possible to kick her out but I’d like to make her remaining time on the School Board unpleasant. Same with a few others but she’s the worst by far.

Sure but they’ll charge you an arm and a leg and then look for an excuse to withhold anything interesting. They do not believe in transparency despite their false claims to the contrary.

She has an opponent already. I think it is a little late for a recall, but i am unimpressed.

Crossfield routes include Waples and Navy AAP kids, that's why the average is so high. Skyview routes would not include those routes. It's not a good comparison.

Crossfield has been very vocal-they want to stay at oakton

Fox mill has been very vocal- they want to go to skyview

Oakhil has been very vocal- want to stay together at skyview

Lees corner- has been very vocal want to stay at chantilly

Bull run and other cvhs communities have been very vocal want to stay at cvhs

There is a petition for several groups and have been showing up to most meetings

This scenario makes most people happy

That's not true. There is a significant portion of Crossfield that is in Hunter Mill. I'd say at least 25%
