FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

we are zoned to langley and i have heard not one person say this. maybe there are a few people on next door. but the majority has not said a single thing about KAA. it does not affect us.

I am troubled by Robyn Lady’s comments at the last school board meeting. She was pushing a magnet again when the consensus at the work session was a traditional community school. She is completely in the sway of the great falls brac/nextdoor poster. They aren’t looking to serve the greater community. Just ensure they don’t get moved to Herndon.

And, the dramatic switch from how wonderful that this school can finally give Chantilly some relief to pushing for a magnet instead indicates something.
I guess it indicates that the only school in her constituency affected by KAA is Coates. And, considering how overcrowded it is, she does not seem interested in helping them. She is their SB rep and should have insisted that FCPS fix it and not wait for the boundary study.

agree 100%. Its crazy to me that Coates has been allowed to get so out of hand.

Did I hear that right?

Reid said they are contemplating giving the current 7th and 6th graders in the boundary a choice between their current schools and KAA.

She also said that for those transitional years, maybe they can offer spots for out-of-boundary kids.

That’s interesting, but what about buses?

What? Has Reid ever successfully run anything?
They started this purchase in the winter. There should have been a staffer assigned to start some serious planning then. Sounds like they have waited and waited. I think she seriously hoped to have an Aviation School and ignored reality.
And, the "comprehensive" boundary review should have been tabled until boundaries for this school were determinged. Bottom line: I don't think she wants it to be the much needed traditional school.

I am at the open house. It's an outstanding facility. Dr Reid did say they are considering giving options to rising 8th , 9th and 10th to stay at their base schools

I was wondering if they are going to make you sign NDA's to view them.

It's obvious she wanted something like the high performing Aviation magnet school that's in Washington State.

Amazing facility, wish they made it another magnet. Half of Rachel Carson next door wants to get into TJ.
