Fox Mill and Floris kids at SLHS opted in. My kid reported kids from Hughes MS at the HS preview day for Skyview, so it wasn't just Fox Mill and Floris. I would guess that some where are 25 kids from FMES opted in this year. Keep in mond that FMES enrollment numbers are inflated by the JI program, so the kids going to SLHS from FMES is actually smaller then the enrollment at the school. It was probably roughly 50% of the 8th grade class from FMES opted in to Skyview. The Floris numbers at SLHS are pretty small as well. I am guessing the Hughes kids who opted in would be from Dogwood, maybe the kids who had been in the JI program at FMES.

I suspect that SLHS is also realizing that it is going to see an increase in the number of kids looking to pupil place to Skyview because it will be the closer AP school for lots of families. SLHS loses about 125 kids a year to Herndon for AP, that number might go up with an AP program at Skyview due to the difference in student bodies. Parents might be more comfortable pupil placing to a lower FARMs AP school then the higher FARMS AP school that had been the choice for most. And the SLHS community knows it. Some discussed it on Meren's FB posts.

According to the capacity dashboard only 13 kids transferred from South Lakes to Herndon this year (158 transferred from Herndon to South Lakes). When Skyview becomes an option for AP, the number of transfers out of South Lakes may increase substantially.

No, Skyview won't have the capacity to take AP opt ins, South Lakes transfers will still go to Herndon.

Plan is for Skyview to have an eventual capacity of 2000. The latest plan redistricts under 1800 students to Skyview. So why won’t it have the capacity for pupil placement for AP or the pathways program?

It won't let in AP transfers. I didn't say anything about Pathways, you did.

I don't know what you're trying to say. Are you saying that if Skyview has 200 seats available for pupil placements, students wanting to transfer for the Pathways programs will receive priority over those seeking to transfer for AP?

What is your problem?? There are AP options all over the county but the Pathways will only be at one school. Think about it.

I've simply asked you to explain who you think can pupil place into Skyview assuming it has a capacity of 2000 and under 1800 kids living within the new boundary. You haven't quite managed to do that yet, at least not directly.

South Lakes kids will be able to pupil place there for AP, they don't even need the pathways. The tool for pupil placement lists that schools that are closest to you and have space. Skyview is projected to be at 80something% full, meaning there will be space for kids. It will the closest AP school for many of the SLHS kids, which will allow them to pupil place for Skyview based on wanting AP. Others will pupil place for the pathways. Herndon kids could pupil place for the pathways. It will be interesting what the pupil placement patterns lookl like.

That is what I was assuming as well. On the one hand, they are shutting down pupil placements for foreign language but then they’ll create other grounds for pupil placement and preserve pupil placements for AP and IB.

Nearest school after Skyview would have to be Herndon High for AP.

Parts of SLHS is closer to Madison and Oakton. The others transfer to Langley for Russian, probably.

Yep. They make such a big deal about how important it is to get feedback from less affluent communities and then, when they get it, they ignore it.

Right, both scenarios are all red (I think I seen one green dot?) feedback in that entire Westfield/Walney Oaks/Brookfield area. Since the Walney Oaks people are thrilled with their secret hook-up, that has to be Westfield parents addressing the very sus proposed boundaries, and Brookfield parents who want to stay at Chantilly.

Amazing that they are ignoring this negative feedback but babied the other unhappy areas.

EXACTLY. There are people that I heard make this argument and I know for a fact that their kids cross that street on foot/scooter/bicycle to go to Starbucks several times a week.

Its the worst on Friday afternoons. Only matter of a time until one of them gets hit by a car in that parking lot.

Franklin Farm Giant is now Skyview country, those Oakton kids will need to find somewhere else to hang out
