x1000 I cannot imagine wanting a drink while watching one of my kids play soccer or baseball or lax or basketball or whatever at school or public field. If you feel you "want" or "need" a drink for that short time period then I suggest that you consider you have an alcohol problem. |
| Yep, if it’s a double header. I am guessing other parents drinking from tumblers are doing the same. |
Interesting take.. . We have a group of parents who drink at every opportunity and publicly and they also encourage their children to break the rules elsewhere in the neighborhood (breaking into the pool at night, roller blading on the basketball court). They are all minimally successful in life and in their relationships. I do wonder about having a problem following rules is the root of the issue for both. I'm surprised at how clearly it's delineated among this group. The more successful people don't drink in public but save it for backyard, private property get togethers and their kids don't break the rules. I never really noticed the connection until you mentioned it. |
| No. Wouldn’t cross my mind. |
I’m so fascinated by this. I have a senior summer and club swimmer. I’ve had wine at a hotel bar with other parents at a travel meet and at pool social events. But, never seen it at a meet. I’ve got to watch more closely on Wednesday nights! |
I didn’t realize “wine mom”’ was a real thing until a few years ago and I have a 14yo. I was completely floored. |
| This whole thread fascinates me. I can't figure out why anyone cares. Do I do it? I have not. Will I ever? Who knows. Is drinking at noon a big deal? Not to me. Do I care what adults do so long as they are not disruptive and not drinking and driving? No. I do not. |
| What if one of their kids got hurt during the game and had to the ER? You can't just sit there and get buzzed when anything could happen and you need to be clear-headed to react. |
|
I never really thought about it until this thread, but pretty much every boys lacrosse tournament I've been to there have been parents drinking. Coolers of beer, mostly. I've never once seen people drinking at a girls lacrosse tournament. Maybe the parents hide it more?
Lax Bros gonna Lax Bro, I guess. |
Probably more common at the country clubs that have bars at the pool. If they don't have to BYOB, I'll bet parents would be more likely to drink! |
Yeah, those two dads drinking beer from their Yeti tumblers? As long as they're not disrupting the game, why would I care? I mean, sure, there are technically rules against doing that, but I don't see breaking the rules as a problem unless it causes problems for others. |
It's comments like these that confuse me. People can have one drink. Or two drinks, over the course of a 2 hours game and be completely clear headed. I don't drink at my kid's games, but I also think our attitude towards alcohol in this county is nuts. A cold beer on a hot Saturday afternoon is not a problem. Your kid might have to go to the ER when you're drinking that chardonnay on your back porch as well |
| Why in the hell do people spend so much time at things that bore them this much? Tell the kid to find another hobby. Jesus. |
"I know you love baseball, Billy, but mommy gets really bored at your games. I've enrolled you in dance instead; I'll enjoy that much more" |
