Do parents drink at your tween’s sporting events?

Yes, baseball especially

Or if you have a series of games, you should be hydrating because you will be outside for a long time and driving frequently.

That’s what I was thinking. I can imagine having some parents / players over after a game or tournament- but not being able to make it 2-3 hours without alcohol? That shocks me. I sure as heck wouldn’t be carpooling with those parents.

Do they think it’s cute or funny? It makes me think they are alcoholics.

Honestly it’s super boring and I don’t understand why parents are pressured so much to be there the whole time every practice and every game. It’s too much

Travel lax, hockey, soccer back the hotel in the evenings. Travel hockey only if the rink served beer and people didn’t go crazy.

Rex basketball, no.

Several years ago we had an earlier hockey game at a tournament. When we came back the next morning we found out the parents (both teams) from the last game who had tailgated before the game got in a fist fight in the parking lot and cops were called.

We’ve been super fortunate to be on teams with social parents but no one out of control and no fighting for god’s sake.

There are a lot of secret drinkers in the suburbs. "Wine mom" is real, that's how it became a meme. These moms just put the wine in a coffee mug or thermos to hide it. Or they drink with their mom friends, so they're not doing it alone. I can spot these moms a mile away as the child of an alcoholic. I know how to spot the signs. I just feel sorry for them because they are in denial that they have a problem.

Wrong

We even had a parent chaperone drink on a school field trip to Annapolis. On a boat ride, he pulled out a beer. Another parent complained and he wasn’t allowed to chaperone anymore.

One person drinking 10 beers and still driving their child back home? WTH?

DP, here. In my neighborhood everybody can just walk home from the pool.

Agree.
Two children in travel soccer. Tournaments can be long sometimes, but it never occurred to me to drink during the day while watching them play.
I enjoy watching them play. I enjoy the sport.
Same for when they were on swim team.

Very common at my child’s dance competitions. Even the dance teachers drink and then wink as they post about it online. Crazy.

Omg we all drink too much. Sheesh. (Not sarcasm)

Most people can have one drink and drive.

AAU basketball--no.

I've found it much more common on our travel sports teams (hockey and baseball) than our rec sports teams (soccer and basketball). Even my kids know that hockey parents can drink a lot.

I don’t drink, but I know others do. Therefore, it’s safer if I drive carpool and the drinkers stay home to drink there.
