Who found the opportunity to smoke pot!
Projecting onto the parents all of their own bad behavior! |

Not even snowflake Canada is putting up with teachers refusing to work!
Ontario did another stay-at-home order on the 26th of December. Most of Ontario opened last week. Schools started in-person instruction in mid-January! No bars and restaurants were open for indoor dining, but schools were open. |
There are actually already programs specifically designed to attract men of color to teaching (see NYC Men Teach). Perhaps education is dominated by white women because it is not a viable career path for people who aren’t married to someone who earns significantly more money than they (statistically, white men). How many people can afford to support a family on 30 or 40k? Please don’t quote the highest possible salary for an educator to make (after working for 20+ years and accruing student debt from getting a doctorate or second masters) as evidence that most teachers are making six figures. The average teacher salary in the US is $61,000 a year. |
Kind of irrelevant to here, where the salary range STARTS at 60k. |
WRONG. It starts at $50k for FCPS. Here is the pdf (https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/FY21-teacher-194-day.pdf). In a county where the median HHI is over $151,000. |
Right. Seems adequate until you consider the cost of living. Making 1/3 of the median HHI means living paycheck to paycheck, not being able to save for college or a home, or have an emergency fund. Not really the kind of career path you’d go into to try and support a family as the breadwinner. If educators were better compensated, you’d have more people willing to go into it (and not just those whose salaries are supplementary to the higher household earner). |
That and median rent. I wonder what it is for a 1 bedroom. Where is “here” that they are starting at $60k? |
Canada, Europe, Japan, every red state. We are pretty alone in our stupidity. |
Well said. Stupidity it is! ...At the greatest expense to poor and middle class Americans who can’t afford private tutors. |
Your comparison makes sense only if you consider the household income of teachers to the median HHI. Otherwise, you should compare average salary to average salary. Which in FFX seems to be about 60k. |

Are all school board members educators now? |
So, roughly the same as the median HOUSEHOLD income in the U.S. And most people aren't trying to support a family on one income. |
Oh lord. Do we have to rehash this again? Could you just not read back through the comments to see the content of the board? |
Those aren’t educators. They are elected school board officials. And frankly, their observations are spot on. The way some parents have behaved the last year is scandalous and worthy of derision. |
