Ashburn is going crazy

No way. 50 minutes minimum at off hours.

Haha. Do you know where Ashburn is? Or DC for that matter?

Sure. By helicopter.....maybe. 50 minutes without traffic by car....2 hours in rush hour sans pandemic.

This. No way in hell are the people in Ashburn doing all these things in DC that they are posting. For big events it’s like rush hour traffic and no parking. Forget about finding space at the Reston stop and metroing in either.

Friends in McLean rarely go into DC. Forgot about Ashburn.

Have you ever lived in any major metropolitan city? That's like saying no one from over the bridge in NJ or down the expressway in Westbury ever goes to NYC.

Is your vision so narrow that you truly believe that only people that live in DC attend events in DC? You all actually do live in a bubble, hilarious.

I don't get this at all. I live in Fairfax and there's nothing more to do here than Ashburn.

PP did not say people from Ashburn don’t go into DC. But to say they go into DC regularly to attend events is just not true. 2 to 4 hours round trip is not happening even every few months.

Lol! Nobody is leaving Ashburn at 730am to visit Nobu and returning at 430PM.

Borrrrring!

Perhaps a few carjackings and armed robberies with a sprinkle of rapes would liven your dc surroundings?

Nope, you can stop the TV drama. Have lived in the city for over 10 years and none of the above has happened to me or my neighbors that I know of.

Best you stay in boring, boring Ashburn and your vanilla boring life.

DC sounds so thrilling...and yet here you are trolling a thread about Ashburn.

Enjoy your life in your boarded-up, barricaded, locked-down encampment of a “city.”

Nope, not trolling. I’m here because I know Ashburn, the real estate, and area well.

DH used to live there, and we rented his place and recently sold his place there. His mom and sister is still there.

The reason why there is a lot of security with the inauguration is because of racist white supremicist of which I’m sure there is a number of them out in Ashburn.

DC is thrilling and lots to do even with a family.

BTW I suggest you get some help with your rape comment. I was not the original poster above but responded as a female in kind to your ignorant, rude, and demeaning remarks.

"DC is thrilling." Excuse me, what? Do you know what thrilling means?

I've lived in cities twenty times+ the size of DC and there wasn't anything thrilling about it.

Jumping out of an airplane without a parachute is thrilling. DC is not.

I don’t think you understand what thrilling means.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/thrilling

Lots of exciting things happening in DC and front and center is experiencing history as it is written. Been to the inauguration of the 1st black president? Heard a president speak live? Been to the Women’s March or climate change March?

Seen Hamilton or the symphony? Attended a famous book signing?

You might not find these remarkable history changing events thrilling but trust me thousands do.

Lol! Wut? I live in Ashburn and have done all of this. Including attending the The Obama for America Staff Ball at the Armory. However I did go to Hilary Clinton's Book signing, but that was in Virginia. Does that count?

The symphony is REALLY REALLY REALLY boring. That was a one and done.

Are you under the impression that only DC residents attend inauguration and marches? You really need to get out more. There's a big world out there waiting for you to learn all about.

Ok then. Have you:

spent actual time really exploring the National Gallery of Art?

wandered the Tidal Basin?

ate at Nobu?

shopped in Georgetown?

1. So many times, if I never stepped foot in there again I'd die happy. Between school field trips, out of town guests, and a few random exhibits i wanted to see if I never stepped foot in there I'd die happy. However I absolutely love love the Rijksmuseum.

2. Too many tourists. Nothing appealing about being in nature with a zillion people throwing all their trash around and walking around with selfies sticks. I don't really care to wade through empty plastic water bottles and throngs of loud Chinese tourists.

3. There is a Nobu in DC? Who cares? I went to the one on 57th and also the pleasure of dining at Sukiyabashi Jiro. It ruined all other sushi for me. How does Nobu DC compare? Can it compete with Jiro? Nobu is practically a chain now. You could at least have called out Barmini or Rose's.

4. I certainly don't need to travel to Georgetown to shop at an Athleta, Banana Republic or Sunglasses Hut. Is this supposed to be a selling point? Do people still shop at these stores? Is the TJ Maxx any good there? do you finish up your shopping with lunch at Chipotle?

As a DC resident I agree with the above. Who shops in stores since 2019?

I go about 6xs a year. That's enough..if I didn't have friends or didn't enjoy the outdoors I suppose I'd spend more time in DC. My idea of fun isn't the Smithsonian. Anyone who had lived here for a long time doesn't care to go to the museums anymore. Frankly most are one and done unless there is a special exhibit. 90% of the time i go into DC is to see a band or buy some of the Devils lettuce. Last time I was there for that it was super sketchy. I was suptised how much it has changed.

Thankfully there’s no need to go to DC anymore. Just get your card in VA.

Exactly. Arlington to DC is like Brooklyn to Manhattan

Ashburn to DC is like Staten Island to Manhattan. A bit longer drive, but very similar.
