FCPS has better schools. I live in Ashburn and have always called it AlmostWV. If you have a child in special ed, FFX or MC are definitely better. Racism is an issue at our schools.

Ashburn is like a cult. they must inhale to many exhaust fumes sitting in traffic for hours at a time and looking forward to trying the new spring specials at chains restaurants in the local strip mall.

Get over yourself. I live in Arlington walkable to metro but I totally see the appeal of Ashburn. There are plenty of commuter buses, Reston metro, and soon a metro right there.

I have a buddy who lives in Ashburn. We went to his community pool (they have 2) and ate lunch in his spacious house while the kids frolicked in his big patio and backyard. He flies out of Dulles but doesn't go into the office now. Plenty of open space and trails too. Not a bad place to live and raise kids. I live closer in and if my job didn't tether me to the city, I would strongly consider it as an option. My wallet would be much heavier with a lower mortgage payment for the house that you get out there.

That's the problem with the exurbs for me. We are AA and bought in NW DC, but also considered close-in MoCo suburbs. Exurbs in VA? No way.

Some PPs make Ashburn sound like deliverance. I mean, really? I grew up there, and have since lived in NYC, DC, and Boston. Ashburn is suburbia, no question about it. But it has access to big city amenities at a more affordable price point. It’s one of the few Northeast burbs that has Sunbelt-like prices. And it’s the most diverse place I’ve lived.
