What would you consider to be the Washington area's prestige neighborhoods?

Rosemont
The small portion of N. Arlington that borders McLean

This is a good list for the 1980s, but a lot has changed since then.

+1. I assume PP is older.

That list is still very relevant if you delete Belle Haven.

I would also probably delete Great Falls and add Lyon village.

It's Kalorama and then everything else is in a lower tier. That said, I moved from the Dupont/Logan area to Chevy Chase, and there were far more boldface names in Dupont/Logan than in Chevy Chase.

I love Georgetown and even lived there for a couple of years, but it's just not that convenient.

And Kalorama is and especially CCDC or other parts of NWDC? A lot of the areas mentioned here with old mansions are not very convenient or particularly close to everything or even metro. At least Georgetown has its own retail/business strips vs residential parts of NWDC, where you could be a mile away from anything to walk to except residential homes.

yes- if you are driving, it is much faster to go N-S to/from downtown than E-W. Kalorama & Woodley Park are super convenient to downtown--much more so than Georgetown. Even CCDC is much quicker than you'd think with the lane changes on CT Ave that give you four lanes.

CCDC buyer beware: DDOT is conducting a study that likely will lead to the elimination of the reversible lane on Connecticut Ave during rush hours.

Public schools aren't the big factor for truly prestigious areas; proximity to the top private schools is more important. nothing wrong with Potomac, but it's not on the same level as Kalorama, Woodland-Normanstone, parts of Chevy Chase, etc.

Most of the top private schools are located in Woodley Park—adjacent to Woodland Normanstone (Beauvoir, St. Albans, NCS); Cleveland Park (WIS, Sidwell); and Tenleytown (GDS). Other private schools are located in (or within a 5 minute drive of) those neighborhoods: NCRC, Aidan Montessori, Burke, Whittle, and Sheridan).

Whittle?! I would not consider Chris Whittle’s latest Ponzi start up to be anywhere near this grouping of schools. But nice try.

The Albrittons, Marriotts, Dezoretzs, Ludwigs, and Zientzs seem to agree.

The Ludwigs? Who are they?

But Chevy Chase’s “history” largely is one of deliberate segregation, so your personal notion of “prestige” is tinged with exclusion at least as much as exclusivity.

Oh give it a rest. The US elected a black president. The only color that matters in CCV is green.

Older than who? I’m 37. I still think it is a good list.

I would also add in Reston, Arlandria and Vienna for Virginia

All of you are very parochial and narrow minded. Prestige doesn't mean white people are good public schools. You can't touch a decent rowhome in Logan Circle for less than $1.5 million. That's prestige.
