What would you consider to be the Washington area's prestige neighborhoods?

L'ambiance in McLean!

It's right there in the name! Used to pass it all the time and circa 1997, the development entrance signs (maybe two?) announced " L'Ambiance"in shiny gold cursive metal mounted on a light brick wall.

Researching now to see if it has changed names.

It has not, and it’s in Falls Church, where a number of developments use “McLean” in their titles.

There is also a “Peachtree of McLean” apartment complex in Falls Church right across from Marshall HS, which sounds like a hybrid of Buckhead in Atlanta and McLean.

When I was a kid back when the library was in that complex, it was just the Peachtree apartments. Although it may not be in McLean, it is awfully close to there. Seriously, Pimmit is basically McLean. I mean you can live in McLean and Pimmit could be literally in your backyard.

Pimmit Run “literally” could be at the edge of your backyard in parts of McLean, but not Pimmit Hills (or the Peachtree of McLean apartments).

Well perhaps not literally, but one side of Magarity has McLean addresses so Pimmit Hills is across the street from McLean. Some properties on near the intersection of Great Falls/Lewinsville Rd are also very close to Pimmit Hills. It doesn't really mean anything but they are in fact very close.

That property in The Plains is fabulous.

I think a saint or soon to be saint living in a neighborhood has to mean something!

For Single Family Homes: Kalorama, Embassy Heights, Forest Hills, Wesley Heights and Kent. Chevy Chase Village MD.

Spring Valley too but discounted because of cancer-causing toxins.

In terms of individual streets, would also add Chain Bridge Rd and University Terrace in DC.

Anonymous wrote:Kalorama is a transient neighborhood. Too few owners are present. And the Obamas only live there because of the proximity to the Naval Observatory. (Same with Clinton’s.) Normanstone and Wesley Heights/Foxhall are the best DC enclaves for old school and long standing DC families.

Are they into astronomy?

What part?

The part of Chain Bridge Rd between Dolley Madison and Georgetown Pike.

The neighborhoods (excluding Langley Ridge) to the north of Georgetown Pike inside the beltway.

Anything overlooking the river

I don’t live there. But if one was going for “prestige” in McLean those spots are some places where those concerned with it live. But keep on with your super sweet personality!

But Chevy Chase’s “history” largely is one of deliberate segregation, so your personal notion of “prestige” is tinged with exclusion at least as much as exclusivity.

Ah, and Virginia seceded for slavery, so that's written off. And Marylanders at one point attacked the original Catholic settlers. And Kalorama is a Greek word -- and you know what they did to Troy ...
