This wasnt a DA v ECNL comment, but ECNL has already one-upped DA with the ECNL regional league for non-elites. So you can comment on that ECNL dad. |
Not the $$ poster. DA2 or DPL or whatever you want to call it makes sense for some teams. In an ideal world ECNL and DA would merge but this is unlikely to happen. DA has announced two initiatives for next year. 1) The tiering of DA teams (Tier 1/Tier 2.): This makes sense so that teams will play teams of more equal ability. This does not immediately fix the problem of a weak club with a strong team in one age group or a strong club with a weak team in one age group. Players should be allowed to move more freely from club to club. 2) DPL (DA2): This is apparently being rolled out by a select group of top teams. This provides a place to put the second (former ECNL) teams of teams that are deep enough to have two strong teams. The problem with this plan currently is the distance between DPL clubs at least on the East Coast. These teams should be allowed to compete against Tier 2 DA teams. Players on DPL teams are not restricted from playing high school soccer. This should arguably be allowed on Tier 2 teams as well. I suspect DPL play for East Coast teams will be limited to a couple of DPL showcase/tournaments and they will continue to play in other leagues/tournaments. Ironically a couple of local DA clubs and their partners are also fielding ECNL regional teams next year as well. |
?? FCV is the only DA club with VPL ties to field a ECNL Regional team. Great Falls is not a DA club. The difference is subtle but there is a difference. FCV, with the St James ownership may be able to spin off the FCV United tag and let that be a more independent entity as well leaving DPL as the true ST James FCV DA second team. I could see FCV United obviously staying tightly affiliated withSt James FCV DA but it will likely be run more and more like an independent club as time passes. |
| Ecnl2 and DA2 is the same dang thing. They were even announced at the same time it's a money thing. Do not spin it as anything else. |
Who spun it as anything else? |
The one that has issue with ECNL2 but think it makes sense for DA. T |
It’s a money thing? |

I think what would make the most sense is to combine ECNL and DA into one league.
High schools should standardize in what season they play girl's soccer and everyone should be allowed to play high school soccer. Clubs should continue to practice 1x per week during high school season. A few weekends in the high school soccer season should be reserved for club games. I don't think every team should get a second team. If a club wins the conference championship they should be allowed to create a second team that competes in same league as their first team. The club (or second team) with the worst overall record in conference should be asked to leave the league. |
Nothing disallows high School Soccer. The DA rules simply state that if you play High School soccer that you cannot participate in any DA activities during the duration of the High School season. And for good reason. Work overload. |
Yeah. It is. |
Actually you are prohbited from playing HS soccer but can get a waiver if you attend a private school and that your admission is contingent on your playing HS soccer. |
How? |
Monopoly |
| So VPL is now becoming ECNL 2? Assume this is part of greater plan for expansion for girls? Or boys too? |
So far for girls only and regional ECNL (not ECNL 2). Yes there is a difference. |
