69400 / 26 pay periods = $2669 (each paycheck)

In 2019, with the adjustment, Ms. Teachalot will earn $68503

Pay periods 1-17 (17 pay periods)
17 (2669) = $45373

Pay periods 18-26 (9 pay periods)
2669 - 2669 (3.7) = $2570
9 (2570) = $23130
45373 + 23130 = $68503

In 2020, with the adjustment, Ms. Teachalot will earn $67711

Pay periods 1-17
17 (2570) = $43690
Pay periods 18-26
9 ($2669) = $24021

43690 + 24021 = $67711

Over two years, Ms. Teachalot’s income will be 136,214.
Before the adjustment, it would have been 138,800
Over two years, her income will be reduced by $2586
an average of $1293 each year

How is this not a cut?

I can't really be bothered to check your math, but it looks like you left out the extra paycheck.

Once again, for those in the home audience:

(S/26) x 26 = (S/27) x 27.

You nut! There is no extra paycheck!

Then why does the email from DCPS say there are 27 pay periods instead of 26?

It's magic. They've altered time. Or you could say that they deleted one of the 26 pay periods and replaced it with what they are calling the "27th pay period" which consists of funds subtracted from the next 26 pay periods

I’m the posted who listed all the pay periods for two years. Which one are you suggesting they deleted?

You did not post all the pay periods. You left out the extra pay period. There are 27 pay periods this year. Exact same salary, exact same working days, spread out over 27 instead of 26 pay periods.

Great! So what is the date of this 27th pay period? Is there a corrected pay schedule?

Maybe you missed it since it is several pages back. I listed #1 (8/30/19) through #27 (8/14/20)

Pay period 1 occurs in January.

So you know for sure that there will a paycheck on 7/10/20?

Thanks for catching the error. Should be:
24. 7/17
25. 7/31
26. 8/14
27. 8/28 (which would be for pay period 8/3-8/14 I believe which is the last two weeks before 2020-2021 begins, so the number of checks still works out.)

Payroll numbers the paychecks starting in January, so that 8/28 paycheck would actually be paycheck 17. There are still only 26 paychecks in the year. There would still be a pay reduction for 10-month employees for both 2019 and 2020.

FFS. The email says there will be 27 pay periods.

Per calendar year. That’s not the argument. There is a gap between two contracts so they are extending the contract year by two weeks to pay us. Not extending the amount of work we have to do, just helping us out.

Wouldn’t there only be 25 checks if 8/28 is #17?

Well, you sort of are. Don't you turn in all your keys at the end of the school year, when your contract ends?

Nope, we literally are. We don’t literally sign a contract but our employment is by contract year.

In more than 17 years working for DCPS I have never heard the term "contract year".

Hopefully you aren’t a dullard like some of your colleagues in this thread.
