The NRA is imploding from greed and nepotism

I'm in favor of strict gun control but also in favor of a non-corrupt NRA. Gun owners deserve an association that will work in their interests, whatever those are, and use their money for things they want, not for subsidizing the lavish lifestyle of the top executives and their friends.

Very few commentators on this thread give a rats ass about what the NRA provides its members, nor are you members. You have no idea what a state prosecutor going after the main gun rights organization less than 100 days before a national election will do to motivate voters, both long time and brand new gun owners, to get out and vote and drag everyone they know with them. This will play as politically motivated and a step towards gun grabbing. They won't care about anything else and you won't convince them otherwise. Very, very poorly timed and will definitely affect the outcome.

What outcomes might you have gotten had LaPierre and the NRA executives not sucked SIXTY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS out of the organization and into Bah vacations et al? Y’all might have not lost the House.

So then your position is that GOP voters are literally ignorant, corrupt and don’t care about the rule of law whatsoever as long as their chosen tribe achieves power. Admitting the truth us a start I guess.

Nope. I'm not a member -- although I have friends who were extremely active in the past, and I'm old enough to remember when the NRA was generally well-regarded and focused on education. I think people have started using terms like "politically motivated" in very broad ways. This is a good time for people to understand just how corrupt many organizations and institutions are. At least some will keep this in mind as they vote. We really don't know how this is going to play out -- although we can all speculate: Gun nuts are gonna gun nut; people who strongly believe in gun control will continue to strongly believe in gun control. People who actually examine the data and make thoughtful decisions accordingly will continue to examine the data and make thoughtful decisions accordingly. And people who troll, mislead and try to fan the flames of ignorance will continue to do just that as well.

I am one of the commentators that does not give a rats ass about what the NRA provides its members. So take what I say from that perspective.

I am thinking about what would happen if an abortion rights group was attacked by a state AG 3 months before an election because they are asserting wrongdoing on the part of the leadership. I would probably be pissed. And would rededicate myself to voting. However, in three months, I might have begun to get dribs and drabs of the organization’s wrong doing. While I wouldn’t change party affiliation or suddenly change my mind about the issue (abortion access), I might not be as staunchly behind the organization when it’s time to actually cast a vote.

Who knows though? You may we’ll be right and this wakes up a sleeping population. I guess exit polls will tell.

Yep. A bunch of RWNJ’s we’re absolutely on the fence, but NOW... NOW it’s Trump for sure.
Dang it! We almost had ‘em ridin’ with Biden!
So close.

What’s not going to play well? If the charges stick most NRA rank and file will be very happy. The organization is a fraud. They take you money for gun advocacy and spend it setting up an intern in luxury apartment and buying designer purses for their APs.

Interns in luxury apartments? Link?

I guess you didn't see the thread from a while back with the picture of Wayne La Pierre's hot intern on the inflatable in the swimming pool.

It’s like the Trump Foundation stealing money from the charity and Donald using it for his own benefit. These idiots were burning through millions for personal travel. This was FRAUD. As a member of the NRA, a registered Republican and a “gun nut,” I don’t want my hard earned money going to these DB’s.

Why not? They've done well by you. A nice portion of your crowd is armed to the teeth, there are virtually no regulations of any kind, not even on safety features that would prevent you from blowing your own hand off or accidentally shooting a loved one, and you can even shoot first graders to death and the main outcome is that their parents get death threats. The American gun nutter's dream.
What do you care if they skim a little off the top for their fabulous services? You'd never get the same level of ruthlessness from honest people.

Great thread on the depth and breadth of the self dealing going on. LaPierre’s assistant charged her son’s wedding to NRA donors, FFS.

Do you realize that the reason all of this came out was the internal power struggle between Lapierre and Oliver North?

Lapierre is so corrupt he made Oliver North into the good guy.

i don't think many people know who Oliver North is aside from the NRA, or his background.

HINT: he was a criminal.

This is what set it off, from April 2019. North threatened to expose Lapierre's corruption if he did not step down. Lapierre accused North of extortion and forced him out. Everything since then is Ollie's revenge.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/04/27/nra-chief-wayne-lapierre-claims-hes-being-extorted-by-oliver-north-hes-standing-his-ground/

National Rifle Association President Oliver North has been ousted after an alleged extortion scheme within the group’s highest-ranking officials came to light on Friday. In a statement, North told the organization he was “informed” he would not be nominated for reelection. North’s term ends Monday.

The NRA’s chief executive, Wayne LaPierre, wrote a letter to the board Thursday accusing North of plotting to remove him from the group by threatening to release to the board “damaging” information about LaPierre. He claimed North, a former Marine Corps lieutenant colonel perhaps best known for his role in the Iran-contra affair, was pressuring him to resign over alleged financial transgressions.

EXACTLY. That’s what was going on if you go back to the beginning of this thread. It’s not that the NY AG was like “I don’t like the NRA.” This is all the result of internal stuff.
