Kids at Whitman are using the N word, that is what the thread is about. So yes, we are talking about black kids not wealthy Western African kids. In the Whitman district most the black kids who have ancestors that were slaves are kept in a few neighborhoods. They are still segregated from wealthy people. I think it is called Tobytown. They are all over The "W" districts, neighborhoods that were given to slaves after they were freed. In Churchill, it is called Scottland. So yes, Whitman has an issue with the way black kids are treated at school. The parents are clueless and the black parents with money send their kids to private schools like Landon. |
Please read up on Tobytown. Also on Scotland. Nobody gave those families any land; they bought it. Also please read up on African American history in Montgomery County in general. There's a lot of it. Here's a link to an interactive map of county-Designated African American historic sites and districts: http://montgomeryplanningboard.org/blog-news/2016/02/23/montgomery-planning-department-launches-map-of-county-designated-african-american-historic-sites-and-districts-to-honor-black-history/ (Tobytown is zoned for Wootton.) |
I have more info than u can find on a website. The fact is there is segregation in W districts. #deniali |

Do ya all know how crazy you sound?
'Asians are white people' 'West Africans arent black people' 'All rich people are white segregationists even if they arent white.' 'Only rich people go to a W school, except the non racist rich who go to rich private schools' 'Disagree with me and you are a racist' Is the only thing you see a persons race? You all are racist. I feel for the Principal, no matter what he does he cant win. But the real issue here isn't kids being kids in school saying stupid stuff cause they are kids. The real problem us the parents who all hate each other for no damn good reason. |
Sorry, this upsets you; however, students would likely refrain from using ugly racial slurs if their school wasn't segregated. |
Sometimes when something bothers somebody so much it points to something inside yourself that you are unwilling to change. Recognizing you are hateful towards others is a good start. |
I aint the one bothered sweetie |
Yes you are sweetie. |
And people wonder why I, an immigrant, am appealed at racism here. I knew and posted about VA being the hotbed of racism, but this is truly eye opening! "The black kids who have ancestors that were slaves ARE KEPT in a ...."Please tell me you are black, because otherwise this is unbearable. |
What would you call it when these neighborhoods segregated from other neighborhoods are for poor black families. Many govt subsidized. In other parts of moco, govt houses are spread throughout neighborhoods ... but not in W districts. Blacks are kept in their own neighborhood. They also didn't want a soccer fields put in because Hispanic men would show up with pupusa trucks. The list serve was full of racist comments. W's move there as a way to self segregate... plain and simple. |
| I thought they want a safe space from tge non blacks |
So we made you do it? Hahahahaha! Okay. Whatever you have to tell yourself. |
Did I say that? Implicit bias is something we have to recognize and then struggle against rather than ignoring/denying when it influences our policy making, our personal decisions and actions. Why are you talking about marching? Are you suggesting that peaceful protest is not an effective means of creating change within a democracy? I beg to differ. Using the "N" word is an example of explicit bias, though it's not exactly equivalent to burning a cross. Not sure how you got that from what I wrote. And yes, we are a racist country, meaning it's baked into the system. That doesn't mean that every American is a racist. Do you understand the difference? |

Are you saying that handouts from The Great Society brought everything down, plus a handful of black gangster demagogues or Cry Wolf race hustlers? |
