We can see you don't know what the word 'bigot' means. |
| "Huge chances". As someone who just took the test, I break down in tears every day because of that math section. So many of my friends have had mental breakdowns in class because of that test. If this is the math we're going to be doing in TJ, I feel I'll hate my 4 years there. |
I am not a TJ Parent. You need real help! You just labelled 100's of smart, intelligent students as cheaters! How sick is that!! Your child did not make it to the school but that does not make school bad. Granted there are issues here and there. No school is perfect. But to simply look down on such a great school simply reflects how bitter you are from inside!! |
I have a kid at TJ and my other kid is applying this year. And I am not trying to be snarky. But the test portion of TJ entrance is a low bar. It is meant to screen out kids who cannot handle the academics at TJ. If you can’t make it through the test— without prepping— than you would have a miserable TJ experience. And if you are having a mental breakdown over the test, you should withdraw your application. TJ Math is one over your head test at another. The average grade on the first Math 4 Test this year? 61. No curve. If you can’t handle classes that work like this without a breakdown, you will probably do better at your base school. |
You are responding to an obvious troll... |
I have a kid at Carson, and not necessarily. The test this year really threw some kids. And I don’t discount the pressure some parents put on their kids to get in. |
| I am an Asian and my kids are still young. But I really don't like the 'prep' culture. I don't mind kids to learn advanced subjects if they show interest, just like any other extracurricular activities. But when parents put huge pressure on kids to study/prep just for the sake of getting TJ, I think that does create an unfair field, especially those prep schools only provide the drilling exercise, it is kind of cheating. |
It's a well known fact that there is a culture of cheating at TJ. Not some "issues here and there". |
So that makes every child in that school cheater? Same can be said for other schools!! |
Who cares that you are Asian... it doesn't give you any more credibility or strengthen your argument. As a previous poster mentioned, the test is the "low bar" to weed out applicants, so that the admissions staff doesn't have to weed through all 3000 applications. Most of the kids who take prep, would do well enough on the test anyway. They and their parents are just the type to make sure they don't leave any stone unturned. And this year especially, they are prepping for an unknown test... so I don't know where you assume they drilling exercises that constitutes a form of cheating. This is also, not an aptitude or intelligence test. Its to make sure that you understand basic Algebra, can interpret basic scientific charts/graphs, and have basic reading comprehension. Once past that 1st cut, everyone's application will get looked at. Their middle school grades will be evaluated (especially math and science classes), and teacher recommendations will be reviewed. Those kids also prepped for this... its called "doing well in school". Duh. Also, the essay will be taken. Yes, you can prep essay writing... but that is more a life-skill anyway. It would be good to prep this even if not taking a TJ test. Its an open and transparent process, that is well-detailed on the application website. Any interested applicant should know what is involved from the beginning. |
Nope. Other schools have "here and there issues " but TJ has a culture of it. |
Duh! So don't send your kid there.. and don't waste our time commenting here! Or is this a case of sour grapes?? |
|
How are non-TJ parents so definitively claiming there is a culture of cheating at TJ unlike any other high school.
Do you not know that you don't sound credible but sound like you simply have a chip on your shoulder? |
| There is a culture of idiocy on DCUM. Just say no. |
DP here. TJ is a public school in a county with over a million people, not a fiefdom run for the exclusive benefit of TJ families. TJ's future will be decided by the representatives of all those residents. |
