S/o if you could choose any MCPS high school, which would you choose?

Walter Johnson or Richard Montgomery

Poolesville or Churchill

Districted for QO - happy but could do better

Walter Johnson, Quince Orchard, Churchill, Rockville, Magruder in that order.

Least Wootton (toxic), Watkins Mill (unsafe) and Damascus (just too far away)

Well, except magnets - would choose those programs first before anything.

My older DC just graduated from a highly rated magnet in PG county. This year we had to move in with a friend (due to family situation) and younger DC is going to BCC. So I've had children in both school systems now. BCC is supposed to be a "good" school and it is. And it is if "good" means going to school along with a bunch of privileged kids. Sure. That's nice. The academics are...fine. My older child's school was MUCH more academically rigorous and the overall experience was excellent.

Are you comparing a magnet program in PG county with BCC? It makes sense the latter would not compare favorably ito peer group, teacher expectations, curriculum and rigor.

My son is in the Blair magnet and we couldn't be happier.

His older sibling went to a Big Three and we are happier with the magnet than we were with the Big Three. FWIW.

But, most of all, I'm impressed with the kids. I volunteered recently, and I noticed that in this school swarmed with a bazillion kids, they were all nice and respectful and seemed like genuinely nice kids.

+1 I love volunteering there for the same reason.

"Best sports" Ha ha ha.
1+ Churchill had the worst dance team I've ever seen. I guess with all that money, the parents of those students couldn't buy them talent.

They play golf, lacross, and tennis. Dance, only ballet classes for kids, no talent in other forms of dance.

Lacrosse, now that is funny.

Probably Eleanor Roosevelt Science and Tech.

We're zoned for Blair but I don't yet have a HS-aged kid. However, my children are often at Blair for the Young Scholars Program (a science and math program for gifted kids from underrepresented groups) and there are often Blair students in the building on the weekends working on projects. They are uniformly polite, kind to the younger kids, and engaging.

I have no concerns.

I know people on here who will probably laugh at me but we really like Clarksburg HS. Unlike some people (if we're being honest), we specifically looked for a school that is very diverse and at the same time was a place where I knew my kids could excel and find a substantial similar-minded peer group. I know it's only a 7 GS rating unlike the W schools mentioned here but I know what those ratings really mean so we didn't give a crap about that. Our first pick was QO but we found a house that we liked better in Clarksburg and the commute is a no issue for us (one of us telecommutes). Turns out that Clarksburg was a great choice. Not that this matters but my kids are half Asian half White; and we really wanted our kids to have a good set of friends who came from different backgrounds (not all white, not all black, not all Asian, etc.). Clarksburg is like that. Kids don't segregate like they do at other schools.

Nothing but magnets.

Blair magnet. We would live right there and suck it up for our work commutes.

Maybe the other magnets but those are even more far out from downtown.

Clarksburg is a fine school.

We are very happy with our first child's experience in Blair CAP. Very impressed with the school overall.

Younger child is still in middle school.

I guess in the absence of magnets, and if we were willing to move, I would choose either WJ or BCC.

I like Rockville a lot
