The owners have stated this explicitly. The link is further up the page. PP should go find it. |
Then, yes, that is a serious problem. The poster who referred to lack of regulations and pivoted to the party affiliation of the victim's parent was beyond the pale, however. Comments like that should be regulated. |
I can't even...my heart goes out to his parents. No words. ![]() |
On the show they have inspectors there inspecting it... You can watch them. |
Whatever the f@$&. Try to imagine being his parents instead of BLAMING. God I hate people like you. |
Your reading comprehension is failing you. This link does not say it was "never" inspected. What it says it - The Kansas City, Kan., water slide where a 10-year-old boy died Sunday had not been inspected by the state since it opened two years ago, government records show. |
Read it again. It doesn't say it was inspected by the state at opening. The state has not inspected it. The state doesn't inspect waterslides in Kansas. The owners have it inspected and keep reports for the state, if the state has a question and wants to audit it. It's never had a state inspection, just the private ones that the business paid for or did itself. It has less inspection that the average midway carnival ride. In my state, the state inspects all rides at all amusement parks once a year. They post the inspection certificates on the rides. |
And it is not true. The park removed the age restrictions this year. Lots of kids under 14 have ridden that thing with the park's blessing. |
Can you two please stop quoting 50 quotes each time? |
Sure. |
I will say this event has seriously opened my eyes to the presumption of safety we have in amusement parks vis a bus rides. If I go to Hersheypark and the coaster is running, I assume that means it was tested for safety, approved by a governing board, and frequently inspected and maintained to be up to safety regulations. To realize that depending on the state that is not at all a given is quite sobering. |
Sorry, shouldn't say bus rides, just rides. |
+1 |
It has been. Pennsylvania has strong regulation of rides. |
Yes but does Virginia? Maryland? Any other state I might visit? I have no idea and I didn't realize until this event that that might vary from state to state. I know now that it's not guaranteed depending on the state. I would have just assumed, this is a major park, this ride has obviously been tested and regulated and inspected, so if it's running, it's fine. |
