| You can tell when Jesus enters your heart -- it's like a bolt from the blue. Some people get it and others never do, though they pray and pray for it |

I'm both prolife and prochoice.
I think people in these times find all sorts of selfish justifications for abortion- inconvenient, don't have enough time, money, energy, etc to raise a/another child, no father, too young, etc. No excuse changes the fact that abortion is killing a human fetus/baby. I used to believe it was often used for rape or incest. Nope- only for less than 1% of abortions. Health and safety of mother? Nope, again less than 1%. Life threatening or fatal Fetal anomalies? again less than 1% I am prochoice because of these reasons (which are so few) I can't legislate or pass judgment on such a tragic life circumstance. But... 98% of abortions are purely choice and could be avoided. People need to take more responsibility for birth control and better planning. Also, ADOPTION is a real alternative in America today, and there are no shortage of people who would care for an unwanted baby. And there is no shame in carrying a life in your womb for someone else. And it truly sickens me that abortions in America can be performed up to 24 weeks. Almost nowhere else in the world, even progressive European countries, is that allowed. Babies can live at 20 weeks+. There is a HUGE difference between killing an 8 week fetus, and a 22 week fully formed BABY. Yes, God will grant you forgiveness if you are truly repentant. But I wish the overall attitude in America would move away from viewing abortion as a form of birth control. It is killing- it is breaking the Sixth Commandment "Thou shalt not kill". It is a very serious offense. |
Everyone, absolutely everyone is pro-choice. Only difference between pro-choice and pro-life is in which choices are acceptable. But make no mistake, everyone makes a choice. |
Except when God does it and it's called "miscarriage." But in this case, because God did it, it's not sin. It's God's will. |
I haven't heard this one before. So if you're pregnant with identical twins is it cool with the "laws of science" to abort one of them? No unique DNA? |
20 week fetuses cannot survive on their own. You are wrong about that. The chance of survival before 22 weeks is 0%. Regarding "thou shalt not kill" - what about war? What about the death penalty? What about taking out Osama bin Laden? If you think any of those are acceptable, then you accept the are situations to not take the Sixth Commandment completely literally. |
Being entered by a strange man is what got her into this position in the first place. |
NP. 20 years ago having a 24-week fetus survive was unthinkable. Now it's a reality. Pushing back to 22 weeks and one day, 20 weeks, is not beyond imagination. |
God benefits a lot from modern medicine -- assuming that god wants more sustainable births |
That's not at all clear since there are still plenty of early stage miscarriages and birth defects and sudden infant death syndrome. |
| No, OP. I don't think so. |
But those are God's will. God can't sin. Only humans can sin and what is OK for God can be sinful and worthy of an eternity in Hell for humans. |
That commandment isn't "Thou shalt not kill". It is "Thou shalt not murder." God very clearly approves of and prescribes killing in many places in the testaments. |
but when God does it, it's different -- killing becomes a commandment. I don't recall a place in the Bible where god commands anyone to have an abortion. He has commanded his people to rape women, however, but only the women of a vanquished foe and only to marry them. In those days, taking women by force was OK, as long as god commanded it. |
No, you're not. You're anti-choice, full stop. I object to your premise that the reasons you listed for abortion are "selfish." And if you're such a fan of facts, you would know that 1.2% of all abortions are performed at 21 weeks or later, and those are 100% for health reasons. No one is having an abortion for your "selfish" reasons at that point. No one. And, no, I do not believe any woman is doomed to hell for having an abortion. Why would it? The soul hasn't even left God's watch yet. Forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy she doesn't want or forcing her to abort? Yes, that would put you in hell. |
