The Arab Human Development Report published by a group of Arab researchers from the UN Development Program concluded that out of the seven regions of the world, Arab countries had the lowest freedom score. Ah, pulled that straight from Mitchell Bard, I see. And he's the most knowledgeable, informed, fair-minded Middle East source you and your mad googling skills could come up with?

"Mitchell Bard is the Executive Director of the nonprofit American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE) and a foreign policy analyst who lectures frequently on U.S.-Middle East policy. Dr. Bard is also the director of the Jewish Virtual Library, the world’s most comprehensive online encyclopedia of Jewish history and culture.

For three years he was the editor of the Near East Report, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's (AIPAC) weekly newsletter on U.S. Middle East policy.

Prior to working at AIPAC, Dr. Bard served as a senior analyst in the polling division of the 1988 Bush campaign."

and you're point would be?

Sigh. Please stop being so disingenuous, he was and is clearly aligned with AIPAC, who are not known, even in the wildest of fantasies, to provide realistic and unbiased information on anything Arab or Muslim. No one in a million years would ever take seriously a similar ridiculous screed from a similarly highly biased source about Israel. UGH. I've read this man's ridiculous, offensive, borderline hate-filled tripe on Huffington Post.

Stop wasting my time with straw men. And please consult a spell-checker.

Ha-So, you're actually going to say that what I posted (yes, what this man you hate said) is false? Are you seriously going to say that the above mentioned is wrong? If so, Id really like to see some proof that Arabs are able to speak their minds freely and women are not abused. Please, show me some information on that.

I'm Arab. I'm a woman. I grew up in the middle east. I have never been abused, and have always spoken my mind. I am a physician, so obviously education was provided as well.

I think this is one issue about which people may just need to agree to disagree in polite company, and then go forth and engage in your respective politics in your real life! Do y'all just actually enjoy arguing with anonymous strangers whom you will never persuade (on both sides of the issue)? Of course, I guess I am guilty for posting this as well...

Why discuss anything ever?

Yes, I hate seeing women and children killed. The unjust Iraq war killed many many more for much less of a reason. But Israel, like the US, is a somewhat civilized western democracy, that is imperfect. Hamas is not. They are acting like barbarians, inciting violence, and manipulating kneejerk liberals in the US and Europe into defending them.

The racism of this statement is astonishing.

Because Israel is a "somewhat" civilized country, they are justified in killing the barbarians who are "inciting" this violence. Anybody who questions whether or not Israel had other options or whether their response is proportional to the threat is a "kneejerk liberal" or worse, an "anti-Semite."

and so because the Arabs abuse their own, Israel is free to kill as many as they want in seeking questionable goals?

No, it does not. But the previous poster was basically saying that what was posted was inaccurate and the site it came from was lying.

but the point of that article seems to be that Arabs are barbarians, who run dictatorships, and deny basic human rights to their people - other than to justify the Israeli slaughter of civilians based on their more "civilized" status, what other purpose does posting this article serve?

I was sticking up for the poster that said the Arab ways were backwards. Someone called him a bigot for thinking so, when It clearly points to him being correct. Im not saying that gives Israel the right to kill innocent people.

I don't think anyone deserves sticking up for when they make any vast generalization (and a negative one at that) about an entire ethnicity of people. You can't take the extreme of any religion and extrapolate that to be the norm for every person or nation that practices that religion.

Read the first lines of that article again, "While much attention has been focused on alleged Israeli human rights violations in the volatile West Bank and Gaza, the popular press has chosen to virtually ignore violations of fundamental human rights that take place daily in almost every Arab country"

This article was written to state that Israel is a more civilized country with a democracy than the fundamentally uncivilized Arab countries and therefore, everybody should shut up about these "alleged" human rights violations.

Since that is a purely subjective conclusion, that is whether another PPs comment on the utter bias of the author comes in to play.

And please tell me that you're not going to argue that the human rights violations that Israelis are accused of are not happening or do not matter.
