| Just admit it. The circles that the schools cater for have their own pecking order. |
| It's a huge problem in the AA community at WIS, our neighbors and their friends complain about the overt discrimination and need to walk on egg shells or leave. |
| The reverse racism on this thread is sickening. |
AA at WIS are overtly discriminated against by whom? Teachers? Administrators? Other students? Please clarify, and cite an example or two. And is this only second and third hand info (i.e., neighbors, friends of friends)? In other words, have you personally witnessed any overt discrimination at WIS? |
| Black ppl are discriminated against everywhere..even in our own communities. As a new AA parent in an independent school, I wish somebody would mess with my dc or make him fell unwelcome because all hell loose. Same goes in my community. |
I think that there is something to the above poster's comment whetehr that is interpretted as racism or SES snobbery. I think, in reality, it is just Washington attracts a very ambitious and driven type of person, and part of " working their way up" is who they socialize with. Now, I am white, and very middle class, and don't have a "sexy" job , which in Washington means: POTUS cabinet, Editor of Atlantic, WAPO, head producer at ABC, CNN, Head of WB, , Head of IMF, partner in top law firm, lobbyist, senator, CEO of multi-million dollar corporation. Now , just below those peole are the junior partners, the media hacks, the lessor lobbyists, and the just one million a year earners, but not more. Now those people will work VERY hard to get to be invited to dinner parties, vacations, etc.. with that top group. Not ALL people are like this, but enough, that at some schools it sets the tone. Now, if you are just a doctor or some other perfectly respectable prfession, you might find it odd that no one is TRYING to get to know you, but really it is not becuase you are AA, its just because well, you are not Barak Obama or our Atty Gen, and so, what can you do for them? Same goes for me. I'm middle class, and what do I have to offer? who can I introduce them to ? Who can they meet at my house if we become friends? So, you become like the "back up friend" Its got NOTHING to do with skin color. Its just social jockeying Washington style. In NYC, its same but with stock brokers and financial people. |

Elaborate, please? Seriously, I am trying to understand what you mean. |

| Ind. schools are for all children. |
Don't you get tired posting such pablum? My kids have been in independent schools. But I know very well that some kids belong in magnets. Other kids will get more support for their LDs from certain public schools. Still other kids, depending on their personalities, won't do well in the atmosphere of privilege and competition at independent schools. |
I believe the quoted poster probably meant this to mean that children of all races/ethnicity can thrive in independent schools, given the title of the thread and tone of many of the posts. Certainly not every individual child might be a good fit at any individual independent school. |
It's still pablum. Some posters here need to give the rest of us more credit for critical thinking skills. |
I hear you! At times I want to scream about some of the Russians and Poles who talk to me like a jack a--. To their credit, at least they tell me to my face that they think blacks are apes, I know where I stand. |
