I don't know if anyone on here has discussed the difference in initiation for social v full membership - From what I understand, a lot of younger families first join as social members, and then upgrade to full w/golf access ... Can anyone weigh in a little more on Columbia CC? I understand the full initiation there is $70K. I also find the discussion of the purple line going through their golf course disturbing - questioning whether or not it is worth the initial investment. Columbia does appear to be a very welcoming club in the area. Many thanks! |
Not a member of Columbia but on the membership committe of another nearby club. Since the announcement our applications are up substantially and most are coming from the waiting list of Columbia. |
Columbia is 80K plus a pro rated assessment for the new renovations which are spectacular. This is for Active Full membership. You can join as active non golf, non resident, or social which are all cheaper. The membership there is great and far younger than at other clubs. |
they better build that damn purple line. |
Aint gonna happen anytime soon. Purple line blows. |
yep, public transit in the area with the worst traffic in the country is a horrible idea! |
Yeah, like light rail is the solution??? Metro should take this project over. Purple Line will destroy the Capital Crescent trail and many homeowners will be adversely affected. Great idea! And, I love the Post's class warfare coverage of the whole issue. What crap. |
I like the trail myself too, but quite frankly, a trail that gets used by hundreds of people a day vs. light rail that will get used by thousands a day is a big difference. Sometimes sacrifices need to be made. This is one sacrifice that I am comfortable with, considering the other greenspace options. But with that said, I expect Columbia to fight tooth and nail again the Purple Line and this will drag out in litigation for years. The funny thing is that the country club is actually currently encroaching on property that is owned by the county. |
If we employed this logic, by the way, we would have no national parks. Free space is a necessity for living. |
I think the class warfare issue is probably true. Crime does tend to go up around metro stops. And like it or not, crime and low-income are associated. |
Seems to me Columbia is the best club in terms of membership and location if you live in Chevy Chase. |

Can anyone give me any insights/information on Army Navy CC (besides that there are both military and civilian memberships) and Belle Haven CC? |
army/navy is not so expensive IF you are currently active duty. If you wait until retirement...about 80k to to join and monthly is high too. |
Thanks, PP. 11:20 poster here-- should have probably said that our family wasn't military. Trying to see which CC fits us better financially (if there's a difference) and culture-wise. |
