Country Club Questions

I don't know a thing about country clubs, but am now in hysterics after reading the second page of this thread. Thanks for the good laugh!

Your way-to-tanned, sun spotted, droopey skinned legs DO NOT look good in white skirts. Sometimes I have to pull my sunglasses out because the contrast of the dark skin and stunning white actually hurts my eyes.

OMG, I can't stop laughing. I'm the poster who originally mentioned that when I was a child and teenager, I thought that most tennis mommies didn't look very good in their whites. I could not have described it better than you, though I most vividly remember varicose vein issues.

Which country clubs would qualify at the "Big Three," to borrow DCUM language.

Congressional Country Club, Columbia Country Club, and Woodmont maybe in Moco.

And out of ever further curiosity, how much are they? Initiation fees plus annual dues. Someone already mentioned the price for Congressional, what about the other two (or 3 if you include Chevy Chase).

Back to the question asked, i don't agree with prior posters. I think some CCs do have connections to private schools and that some families feel excluded because they aren't members of a certain club.
Anonymous
I agree with PP. We are unfortunately in that crowd. Only membership is Club Penguin.

Even as a child I found it sort of pathetic and wondered why they seemed to love wearing whites to the supermarket and while running errands.

Hee Hee, I wondered the same thing. They needed to show off their legs and status.

If you're at a school where many of the families are in a country club, band together with those who are not. They are inevitably more interesting, intelligent, and friendly than people who spend their days swatting various balls around.

Around 90-100K. Monthly fees probably around 300-400 (the kicker is clearly the initiation fee).
BUT if you are a legacy, remember, initiation fees are a lot less. Many young members of these clubs ARE legacies. And many seem so snooty, but it's funny, because they're paying so much less than someone who joins without the family connection.

Applause.

But it is funny how if someone were wearing their...say...sloppy muu-muu, no one would have a problem.

Hey, tennis player lady, stop wearing your tennis clothes. There are people in the world who can't afford to play tennis and you are bothering them. Make sure to change into something slovenly or poor, so they feel okay.

Yes, but a muu-muu doesn't have the elitist airs of tennis. The average Jack & Jill don't like elitists.

Monthly fees are much cheaper than I thought. I assumed yearly fees were in the 5 figure range.

I think Chevy Chase is 150k to join.

would NOT consider Kenwood in the top 3......

No one has mentioned it yet, but, it's not like you can just call up and send them your $100K + check and you're in. There are wait lists, you have to be nominated/sponsored by a member at a few of these mentioned .... and there has been in the past a very Skull-n-Bones secrecy surrounding who is allowed in and who is not.
