Alysa Liu does indeed speak Mandarin and is involved in the Chinese American community.

The article also says that her dad purposely chose a white egg donor because he wanted the mixed genetics and chose white egg donors for some of her other siblings as well.

Alysa liu cannot speak Chinese you ignorant dolt

I wouldn’t be surprised if she does speak a little bit of the language, just not well enough to do an interview on camera. Conversational, but not fluent.

There is no way she is conversational in Mandarin. She can barely even string together a sentence in English.

She speaks Mandarin you dolt. Read the article.

Wow she can say Ni hao

She probably doesn't even understand what the two words separately mean.

This is hilarious to me. Two young women who are both Olympic gold medalists attending top universities and you’re whining that one of them can speak Mandarin that well. Most Americans can’t even hold a conversation in a foreign language. Who cares????

UCLA is nowhere near Stanford's tier.

She’s the most popular person in America right now.

On social media she has left wingers and right wingers liking her. Young and old. Every demographic.

In two weeks she gained 6 million IG followers. Insane growth.

There are frat bro dudes at my run club and gym who mentioned how cool she is.

Her aerial photo is Michael Jordan flow state esque

Just insane aura.

+1 and she's everywhere right now

I can't believe DCUM is "concerned" for her.

Her Chinese sounds more like a beginner’s level, and her accent sounds like an American speaking Chinese. Gu speaks Chinese very fluently, with almost no noticeable accent. It seems that Gu has maintained stronger cultural ties with China and identifies herself as Chinese first (from one of her documentaries). As for Liu, it appears she keeps a distance from China.

I feel that their parents’ backgrounds likely play an important role in shaping this difference.

No one cares. Neither of them is remotely Chinese. Only Chinese nationals are strangely obsessed with white people identifying as Chinese.

Let’s be real, if your kid had UCLA admission you’d be happy.

People here in this country are very obsessed with why she is not representing America. Pretty stupid.

This is so MAGA. This actually is the new self introduction of maga. Hahah

So true! One woman athlete represents another country + MAGAs are twisting their panties. US males in sports such as basketball and hockey have been doing this for years. As EG said, if she wasn't any good, no one would care. Also, MAGAs don't like women who think for themselves + have their own power.

EG is a huge threat to the MAGA movement - she's a young, gorgeous, brilliant, independent, successful woman, and she's Chinese. Of course, they hate her. She represents everything they complain about.

In fairness, it’s 99% because they couldn’t make the US team but still want to be in the Olympics. I think everyone gets that.

I don’t fault EG…but she is doing it purely for the $$$s. I know it’s crass to say it, but her excuses are just so hollow.

Almost wish she would say “here is what I get repping China, and here is what I would earn if on the US team”. It would be millions either way, but she probably earns 2x-3x repping China vs US.

I’d respect her even more if she just said she did it for the money, but she’s probably repeating what an agent told her to say.

The US govt Dow not pay athletes! Behind what $10k for a medal. The rest is endorsements etc and they have to pay for all the training facilities out to pocket. China and many other govts pay athletes.

Putting that aside, she still earns double to triple the endorsement $$$s because of all the Chinese brands. She wouldn’t get those if she didn’t compete for China and it doesn’t impact any of her US deals.
