This is not a big deal and if you were in the same position you'd take it too. Honestly, I wouldn't want to represent the US in the current administration, so if I were a world class skiier and had another national connection through my heritage, I'd jump on that one.

Disgusting? She’s a dual citizen athlete cashing checks in a global market. That’s capitalism.

You’re worried about her being “full pay” at Stanford? Stanford doesn’t even offer athletic scholarships for skiing. And given Eileen Gu reportedly made eight figures in endorsements, I’m guessing she isn’t spending time with FAFSA.

Calling it disgusting because she took $14M is rich in a country that worships NIL deals and endorsement money. She made a business decision in a global sport. Her product is herself, and she’s clearly dangerous good at it. She might as well capitalize on it while she can. You don’t have to like it, but calling disgusting is selective outrage at best. Team USA wasn’t cutting her a comparable check.

If you and Vance want to be outraged, redirect that to figure out how to create a rewarding ($) system that keeps our best dual citizenship athletes on Team USA.

IMO representing the US isn't representing the current admin especially since it switches out every 4 years. China's regime doesn't switch out.

I've know someone that turned down a guaranteed spot on a Greek team to try to make the US team and didn't make it. With few exceptions I would get why people would go for other nations to get to go to the Olympics, but certainly wouldn't do it for a nation that my parents fled or some other situations.
