I think my my bigger beef is China. Why represent a country known for its human rights abuses? Hopefully she's at least a spy for the CIA pretending to be an ally.

Obviously there is another one skiing for the UK, but I don't find that as ethically dubious.

Do you realize that this is ALL of the U.S. athletes now?

And hilarious that Russia is not here because of Ukraine but we just took out Venezuela's president

I know OP is MAGA. Only they can be so hypocritical at this point in time.

No it's not even remotely the same as decades of genocide and female fetocide in China

Ukraine would disagree

Also see... Israel

I agree. Right now the US isn’t even trying to hide its human rights abuses. Being an American citizen offers zero protection.

Good for her for finding support elsewhere.

Ha, fair point. Trump & his team are bigger grifters than Eileen Gu - who also appears to be a grifter.

At this point the Olympics is meaningless. I don’t even watch.

Are you saying the US is committing human rights abuses against Ukraine and Israel?

I stopped watching Olympics years ago when they allowed professional athletes to complete. I do understand it’s tough economics for many, but the games lost their spirit. The US basketball team playing is just crazy.

So whatever, competing for a different country is the next step. Honestly I always thought it was odd when I learned how non US athletes practiced in the US.

I totally don't get your point if you can explain. You think Ukraine or Israel is worse to represent than China?

Yes, I agree with both of your points.

Well, yeah. Duh. She was born and raised in the USA. Obviously China offered her something to go compete for them (and China doesn't even allow dual citizenship, so not clear what she did or if she had to renounce her US citizenship or if they gave her an exemption.)

But you know there are several American citizen athletes competing for other countries. Some aren't competitive enough to represent the USA, but are competitive in national competitions in Spain, Samoa, whatever...

Sorry what is disgusting about it? She make a free market decision to do business with China like a number of the thousands or millions of Americans doing business with China.

Well that doesn't mean that I also don't disagree with the large companies that cowtow to China. Like Hollywood, Google, you name it.

I just love all of it and am not bothered by pro players playing. It’s fun to see all the hockey stars together playing.
