True, but MD requires them to be public school holidays. |
| Let's not forget that the 26-27 calendar that was just approved also has only one built in snow day and two post-winter makeup days that probably also won't be used. Not only are our children not learning, but the people in charge can't learn from their two years of mistakes. |
And that's only if the county and schools don't botch clearing the snow. Otherwise, we might be in school until the 4th! |
| MCPS has an incompetent BOE. |
Not just one day …two! Juneteenth AND June 23 for county elections. |
+1 There's a reason half of MCPS students can't read or do math at grade level. But let's worry about the economic viability of the summer camp industry and the MoCo Agricultural fair instead. |
What do you expect when the gig is considered "part-time" and pays $25,000 a year? |
| So why does MCPS include makeup days in the calendar, and then not use them? 3/20 and 4/15 would have been preferable to these June days. |
Virtue signaling and teachers' union |
They are trying to get a waiver of the 180 days requirement. It’s a gambit. It appears so outrageous, and then they just want out of the days requirement. The state legislature may actually do it…even though they are not using the designated back up days. |
| The bill allowing hours to count instead of days has now cleared the House Ways & Means Committee with an amendment to apply the provisions to *this* school year and will go to the floor for a vote. |
When? This is really messed up. |
I hope this doesn't pass. MCPS is screwing kids out of educational days as it is. |
I think it happened yesterday but not sure. I just know that got a unanimous vote from ways and means so will go to the floor for a vote. So all of this talk may be a mute point for this year, but real changes need to be made for next year. They need to amend the calendar before next school year starts. |
Does anyone know when the floor vote is? |
