Did I read this correctly that MSDE denied MCPS’s 2 day waiver request? |
If true, on what grounds? |
Yes because MCPS had not satisfied the conditions to apply for the waiver. They actually have to use their contingency and extend the year by an additional 3 days to be able to apply. |
| It was an fing state of emergency for 2 if not 3 of those days! Wtf do they expect??? |
To use the makeup days in the calendar, which MCPS refuses to do. |
They expect MCPS to follow COMAR. That is required. In this case, it means MCPS will need to use the contingency days. If it's not willing to do that, no waiver. |
It doesn't matter what the weather was. The language is clear that the school system must use 3 of its make-up days to apply for a waiver. MCPS consistently refuses to do that and applies for a waiver anyway. They are denied every year because of it. MCPS thinks they are better than everyone else and thinks they'll get away with it. The state is just showing them that they won't, which is perfectly justifiable. All they had to do was use the make-up days in the calendar - 3 of them- and they would have likely been granted a waiver for the rest. |
No, the language says they have to use all the contingency days AND extend the school year by 3 more days. |
The day off on the 23rd is required because it's an election day and many schools are designated as election sites |
|
So what 3 contingency days could have been used?
March 20, June 18 and ?? Just do that and resubmit. June 25 is outrageous for a last day |
