| I agree. The current proposal doesn’t go far enough to balance FARMs between Woodward and Wheaton. |
Wait are you trying to misrepresent feedback about previous options as feedback about the current recommendation and proposed change to it? Wtaf is wrong with you? Do you work for CO? |
?? I am a parent on the PTA board. I don't work for central office and I'm not misrepresenting any information. We have been soliciting feedback for some time and yes, that includes after the "final" recommendation came out. What is interesting to me is the sudden concern for "what's best for the kids" when nobody outside of our community has given a you-know-what about our kids until now. NOW it's about balance and property values and making sure WJ is comfortable and appropriately diverse, with no regard to the community VM has built. Again. If the VM posters here who prefer WJ, you have had many options to share your thoughts and so far, the take you're presenting here has been a blip of a minority of responses collected. I'm saying this not as somebody who makes any choices but someone who has been a part of the process and seen the data. There's no hidden notices or misrepresentation. The sudden concern feels frankly very paternalistic, assuming our students are better off being absorbed into a different community. |

OK, so you are trying to equate three months of feedback about different options and one week of feedback since the recommendation. I really hope VM PTA doesn't rely on you to do any statistical analysis on the feedback. As a part of the process, you probably know that VM PTA currently has discussions with other affected PTAs so you will get a chance to provide your take. Also, VM will be absorbed into a different community, one way or the other. You will not be the part of Wheaton community anymore. It will be either new Woodward community (Tilden MS plus WW; the recommendation) or WJ community (NBMS; the proposed modification). It is on VM families to evaluate which one is better for their kids. |
How many VM families have provided feedback about whether they prefer: - All of VM to go to Woodward or - All of VM to go to WJ or - Don't have a preference? |

I'm very aware that other PTAs have reached out in concerted efforts to unite VM with the Luxmanor and Farmland in efforts, I guess, to stay at WJ instead of being bumped over to Woodward. Nobody involved in these conversations from the VM side has expressed interest in having their kids at WJ. But this thread is off the rails, so I'll just bow out here. I was trying to bring a little first hand VM perspective into the conversation. VM families know how to get in touch with the community and our organization efforts, so I'll catch you guys on those channels. |

Also to add that recommendation has Viers Mill being part of the Loiederman community, as we currently are. New VM family here. I can't catch up on all the 12 pages here, but did read the last few.
What the VM PTA board member said is right. Most of us prefer Woodward and not WJ. I am a VM PTA member who at least listens in and responds for requests for feedback. It's weird someone is trying to gaslight them, but so goes this forum. I like the Superintendent's recommendation. I welcome joining Wheaton Woods at new Woodward. FARMS is not very high there. It will be nice for my kid to be in the majority-minority. I don't want them to go to WJ. It's simple. And no, going to a school with 10% FARMS will not drastically change the outcome for any child. The argument is silly. |
| *10% less FARMS |
You can literally compare outcomes for FARMS kids across schools on the MD school report card - they do best in schools with the lowest FARMS rates and the difference is significant. This is consistent with nationally recognized research that was actually done in MoCo |
Wheaton families do not care about farms or they'd choose another school. The FARMS stuff is silly. If anything give more funds to FARMS so those schools can attract other families who now may choose other schools due to the lack of offerings. Wheaton is a great school. |

VM family here again from a few posts above. 35% FARMS is low. I don't want to bus my kids to WJ for about a 10% reduction. Not worth it. My kid will be better off with other hispanic and native spanish speakers at Woodward. It will be a better atmosphere for them. The current political atmosphere needs my people sticking together. Not being separated. Even if that weren't the case, we are more comfortable with it.
Why are the Farmland people trying to exclude us from the brand new facility? It screams elitist. |
Research....I'm talking facts on the ground for a latino/latina. VM: Say no to Farmland families trying to bus us to WJ. |

It is on VM families to evaluate which one is better for their kids. I’m not in the VM PRA board but attend meetings. PP is telling the truth that we don’t want WJ. It was never even part of our conversations. Also, Taylor’s recommendation keeps us at Loeiderman, not Tilden. WW stays at Parkland. |
Cite your data sources. I grew up a FARMS kid and know what’s best for my kid and WJ is NOT it. If I wanted something like WJ I would have put my kids in private school. |
