Why is it so hard to meet moderate women?

No moderation for me.

You think your daughter will have fewer rights than you did?

Interesting, I think the opposite. I experienced terrible sexual harassment in the 90s, including being sexually assaulted by a coworker at one point. The stuff that was tolerated back, then would be much less likely to be tolerated now.

Worried about abortion? Abortion is legal in most states. I’m assuming you live in one, since you’re on a DC based forum.

What rights exactly do you think you had that your daughter won’t?

More pointedly, this generation has Plan B and the morning-after pill. You can literally pick up Plan B at CVS and never have to see a doctor.

If you are pro-abortion you are demanding control over someone else’s body.

I’m all for most progressive stances, but I can’t be pro-abortion, plain and simple. That fetus is a human being that can’t speak up for itself. Shouldn’t we be protecting it like all other forms of life? Why doesn’t it deserve our respect and protection? Seems odd that we draw this line.

So yes, moderate women exist. We don’t subscribe to all we are told to believe.

You aren't moderate. It's like the wealthy calling themselves "middle class."

You can't trust Conservatives to run this conversation. The moment they get a chance, they are digging out laws from the 1930s and trying to enforce them on women.

Because they naturally think they should have governance over women's bodies.

When is it a fetus, PP?

Should the single cell zygote be considered a fetus? If you can't answer, you have no business being in someone else's business.

Well, I’m a person consistent with my beliefs. I believe people should have control over their actions provided they don’t hurt others. I’m a person who believes we should help those around us in need, particularly those who came here from other countries hoping for stability and a good life. I believe in rehabilitation and not the death penalty.

So, remaining consistent with my respect for others, that extends to the new life within the womb. It has its own DNA and is not merely a clump of cells. And my thoughts on this are born out of science, not religion. (I’m actually not religious.) I believe, as many do, that life begins at conception… not at an arbitrarily drawn line that can’t be agreed upon.

So abortion is taking a life that is not your own. And, as a person who respects life, that is inconsistent with my beliefs.

The far left’s militant stance that women demand control over others in the name of “body autonomy” is why I can’t be far left.

And you are welcome to dismiss me for that. I don’t think I’ll feel insulted.

Ah conception

Yeah, you aren't moderate and I say that as a religious person.

And you are hurting people.

You'll find out one day

Again… I’m not going to get upset because some anonymous person on the internet decides to mischaracterize me.

I am moderate, and disagreeing with you on life doesn’t change that.

And no, I’m not hurting people by maintaining consistent beliefs that support life.

NP. You are not pro-life when your beliefs cause more women to die, no matter how smug you present yourself. Zero moderate about that. Next…

And your beliefs support almost 1,000,000 deaths per year in the US. You don’t have the higher ground here.

I’m able to see this issue clearly. It’s killing, pure and simple. You may not like that inconvenient truth. In the case of nonviable fetuses, then that’s a discussion to have with a medical professional. I had to do that myself for an ectopic pregnancy that would have killed me and the child. And I still live with the regret that I had to endure that; I think about it often.

But abortion used because the child might be inconvenient? Sorry… that’s not a good enough reason to kill. “My body, my choice” ignores the truth that it isn’t YOUR body that is being terminated.

My thoughts are reasoned and logical and consistent with my beliefs about life. Saying that you support life EXCEPT the very young doesn’t give you a leg to stand on.

Getting an abortion for your medical issue but denying other women the same right is really messed up.

She’s not saying that? She’s saying you can get an abortion got medical reasons where life of the mother is at risk. She’s simply saying abortions where the kid would be an inconvenience to the mother are insanity.

No it is not. Bringing children into this world who will end up in poverty/abused/malnourished or in a perpetual cycle of violence is insanity. It's so DCUM to assume everyone is middle class and comfortable in their late 30s with a well establshed career and a kid would just be an inconvenience is totally ignorant. If a 16 year old wants an abortion because she had unprotected sex, so effing be it.

So if you lose your job when your child is 3 months old, and you’re worried about feeding your child, does that give you permission to kill it? Of course not. So why does that 3-month old life have any more dignity and the right not to be killed than a child at 19 weeks in the womb? The truth is that it doesn’t. They’re all human life.

One is a child who has been born and one is a non-viable fetus. I'm not sure why that's confusing to you idiots.

What does viability have to do with the inherent human right to not be killed? Can you kill a NICU baby on a ventilator then? It’s not viable on its own.

You know what, start your own thread if you want to harangue about abortion. I'm tired of morons like you. Don't want an abortion, don't get one. The rest of us are perfectly clear on science and don't want your "feelings" to dictate policy and how our doctors make medical and health decisions. As long as that fetus needs my body to survive it is not viable.

“If you don’t want to murder people, don’t murder people. But it’s OK if others do it.”

Great standard!

The fact that you are calling it "murdering people" really reveals how insane you are. I don't engage with crazy.

That’s not the point they’re making. They’re saying that the moral standard of “if you don’t like it, don’t do it. But it’s fine for others to do.”…is highly problematic.

Nope, absolutely not. Not when it comes to decisions regarding my own body. You can only make that argument if you consider a clump of non-viable cells a baby, which is scientifically and logically inaccurate. You don't get to call it murder based on your feelings.

You aren’t making a decision about your own body. You’re making a decision about someone else’s body.

Inconvenient truth, isn’t it? That clump of cells does not have your DNA.

As the point of this thread is moderate women and whether they exist, the answer is yes.

Science shows LIFE in the womb. To cavalierly dismiss it because it inconveniences you is a step too far to the left for me. Many posters here are writing “it’s my body.” No, it’s not. It relies on you, but so does a 2 month old baby. Are you going to kill that when it gets inconvenient?

You can approach this moderately, understanding there are legitimate times for abortion (non viable fetus, etc). But to scream that abortion is always okay? Absolutely not. That viewpoint dismisses life and rejects humanity. I’m not doing that.

- nonreligious moderate

Abortion is 10000% always ok. It is a medical decision between a woman and her doctor. It is NONE of your business what the reason is that the woman chooses not to continue the pregnancy. If you want to advocate for actual, living, breathing children, vote blue so they dont starve when they can't receive SNAP or die when they can't receive Medicaid. You all are just a bunch of hypocrites and pro birth and not pro life.

Or perhaps you can advocate for (clears throat) both. Unborn human life and born human life.

Sure, advocate for lifting women out of poverty and domestic abuse instead of browbeating them with "abortion is murder."

OMG you are truly evil. Seriously. YOU had a medically necessary abortion and now you want to ban them? You’re saved, but let other women die through the repeal of ROE?!?

This is the most abhorrent thing I’ve ever read on DCUM and that’s saying A LOT.

My position stands you are ANTI-life!

Neither is a fetus. So you just lost the argument.

I'm all for reducing abortion. I support comprehensive sex Ed, access to contraception, WIC, health care and food programs for children, and welfare programs.

Now abortion is still going to happen.

I have a friend who went into her 20 week scan for a very wanted baby (married, high income couple) and came out with the news her son was only dying inside her. In many states they would have made her wait until she was in sepsis, but fortunately she lives in a state where abortion access is protected. She wanted him very badly hit her risking death and losing her fertility wouldn't have benefitted anyone. Yet it's happening to many women in red states.

All I gather is that being conservative is such a nasty set of people these days that even conservatives refuse to accept it and call themselves moderate.

No, it’s not. And, to be frank, this casual dismissal of human life casts you in a very poor light.

Don’t tell me you care about people at all if you can’t care about the smallest among us.

There’s nothing hypocritical about supporting life in all of its forms.

Want hypocrisy? How can you be so pro-choice when you deny choice from an unborn child?
