Private school is a terrible ROI for middle class people

Oh I probably live in a more expensive home than you. There's plenty of bad stuff happening in our high school which is an MCPS W school. there was a stabbing there not long ago actually. Glad we avoided that! There are no more GOOD public schools...they all have issues now.

I recall a stabbing at the British International school in DC like 5 years ago. This shit happens everywhere.

You need to read the other millions of threads on this. Most of us don't send our kids to private for college outcomes. If that's your goal stay public! We send our kids private for whole child development, leadership development, social development etc. in addition to academic development - which is still better at private because of smaller more engaging classes.

I sent one of my kids for a year at TJ and on all those fronts mentioned above it was a disaster - he went back to his private school and my younger 3 never attended public.

I posted earlier that my first job in this area had a mix of people who had gone to local privates and publics, various colleges, but there we were all in the same job, making essentially the same income, in similar cost and type housing, and significant others also doing regular jobs. In other words, it didn't matter.

middle income is not the same as middle class, which is based on lifestyle, values, etc. It would be better if we adopted a more British usage of the term “middle class” which honestly requires more like at least an upper middle class income to achieve, at least in the DMV.

I’m not in Maryland and our schools don’t have the issues posters are complaining of. But we don’t really have low income families.

The other poster is just making a ton of shit up. The schools in MD they are referencing are perfectly safe, located in wealthy areas and have strong academics. If you do a simple google search you will find one incident from 5 years ago.
