Sydney Sweeney / American Eagle Controversy

We will see if the sales actually stick long term. It doesn’t matter what’s in the ad, if people get to the store and try them on and don’t like them it doesn’t matter. The jeans look baggy and too big for her in the ads. I’m sure she is charging the company an astronomical amount of cash to advertise so let’s see if they make a long term return.

I don't know which side you're talking about. I hope it isn't the ones complaining about the ad. Sydney is getting absolutely roasted on TikTok by the exact target demo AE wants.

No, not really. This is a giant win for AE.

So AE wants Moms for Liberty and MAGA grandmas to buy their jeans for teens who won’t wear them?

I guess that is A strategy.

Rage bait. Fun.

She is advertising jeans. Jeans. Clothing called jeans. It’s a play on words.

Have we devolved to a place where it is racist to feature a white person in any ad?

Must every ad feature a rainbow of people or a Kardashian wearing heavy bronzer to blur the race lines?

There’s nothing remotely offensive about this ad. Nobody would be talking about it if Beyoncé or JLo did the ad, which is very telling.

Personally, I think this attack on SS is probably coming from her BF’s ex or another celeb with a personal beef. Or a former manager, ex-PR Rep, or another hanger-on.

I hope someone will stop the madness with this attack campaign.

People love being part of an outraged mob. You can’t reason with it.

Are they actually getting more sales? They are operating at a loss in 2025 so far and the stock price traded up on hype, then quickly started to plummet. I don’t see the ad actually doing much for the brand’s core problems which is that the brand can’t win on popularity, value, etc. against many newer entrants in the market. If anything it may make them worse in that the contingent that supports their more succesful aerie brand may abandon Aerie over this.

You don’t even see the irony in writing that. You are outraged that Sydney might be cancelled for participating in a eugenics flavored ad.

The woke gotta woke about something. I just hope they realize this is how we got Trump.

We should also note that the red pillers sexualized her as a minor and think she’s stupid because she has big breasts.

I don't know her racial background, but her look isn't even a pure white/Aryan sort of look. She has a very mixed vibe.

Tell us you know nothing about eugenics without telling us.

This woman is literally a Type 1A Aryan. Literally the master race, as nazi scientists defined the bloodline.

Three primary traits:

Blonde hair

Blue eyes

Facial structure featuring squareness in the jawline and high, prominent cheek bones.

She’s as nazi as they come.

So you gonna delete a comment calling someone Shaniqua but not someone calling Sydney a Nazi?

Racist.

I’m not outraged about anything. I don’t know SS and I don’t own stock in AE. This is a manufactured issue. It’s all a spiral about nothing. But, you do you.

These comments are disgusting. It's almost as if you want to erase anyone who has whatever you deem to be Nazi features. How stupid....80% of the models throughout the 20 and 21st century don't have the right to have made money on their looks....because their looks are triggering, according to what you've implied? If you're going to talk about inclusiveness, you need to understand that goes for ALL races.

The teen and young adult clothing market is extremely competitive and I think American Eagle just simply got outdone by more interesting stores. I doubt that this will save the brand. Sydney’s fan base is mostly men. They should have picked a girl actually popular with teenage girls.

As an overweight brunette white peri-menopausal lady, I should be offended too right? I think in my entire life, the smallest jean size I ever wore was a 9, and I was in jr. high. So my genes are definitely not great.

DP but there's a pretty huge gulf between not blindly cheering for an ad that goes out of its way to say Aryan genes are "good genes" and wanting to erase the blondes of the world. But I agree that the PPP should not have said "she's as nazi as they come" if what they meant (I hope) was that she embodies the physical ideal held up by Nazis - there's a difference between having Aryan features and being a member of the Aryan Brotherhood.

It’s an obvious Nazi dog whistle. Sydney Sweeney: SS. No way that was accidental.

I can’t believe people are getting worked up over an ad. It is just an advertising campaign and it’s not saying anything wrong. People just want to get offended and hysterical over a non-issue.

I really don’t want to make this put political but if you want to know part of the reason why Democrats lost and why favorability is at historic lows is precisely because of BS like this.
