Sydney Sweeney / American Eagle Controversy

No one's ever looked at Sydney Sweeney below the bottom of her breasts

Sweeney has been held up by the right wing as perfect white womanhood. The ad is pandering to that.

We should also note that the red pillers sexualized her as a minor and think she’s stupid because she has big breasts.

She’s been an adult for almost ten years. She’s only become famous in the last three or four.

I don't know which side you're talking about. I hope it isn't the ones complaining about the ad. Sydney is getting absolutely roasted on TikTok by the exact target demo AE wants.

No, not really. This is a giant win for AE.

How so?

Weeds out the annoying demographic AE doesn’t want, new consumer association with hotness, seen as standing up to schoolmarm scolds, brand now being talked about in socials (remember, the woke scolding helps their brand, doesn’t hurt it, they want those TikToks), free publicity.

I actually agree that the controversy is probably been fanned by AE itself but no matter what, no consumer brand for teens wants “endorsed by DCUMs” as a selling point. So, DCUMs scolding is only good for them.

This isn’t how the brand presents itself. Go check out their website. The clothes are fairly basic and kind of boring. Like the Gap with a teenager spin. Their brand is trendy, but inoffensive. The clothes aren’t revealing at all. I already said it earlier in the thread, but it’s where you take your teenager to get school clothes. It’s not a sexy store for girls pushing the limits on allowable clothes, it’s the opposite.

I don't know her racial background, but her look isn't even a pure white/Aryan sort of look. She has a very mixed vibe.

Remember about 10 years ago when they tried to do this to Taylor Swift? Only difference is that Sydney is willing to capitalize on it.

Tell us you know nothing about eugenics without telling us.

This woman is literally a Type 1A Aryan. Literally the master race, as nazi scientists defined the bloodline.

Three primary traits:

Blonde hair

Blue eyes

Facial structure featuring squareness in the jawline and high, prominent cheek bones.

She’s as nazi as they come.

Agree. This ad was off brand. The sexy teen stores are places like Brandy Melville and Princess Polly, not AE.

You are only offended/outraged if you are looking to be offended/outraged and investing time in making leaps to connect imaginary dots to support your bizarre take on an innocent ad.

She is advertising jeans. Jeans. Clothing called jeans. It’s a play on words.

Have we devolved to a place where it is racist to feature a white person in any ad?

Must every ad feature a rainbow of people or a Kardashian wearing heavy bronzer to blur the race lines?

There’s nothing remotely offensive about this ad. Nobody would be talking about it if Beyoncé or JLo did the ad, which is very telling.

Personally, I think this attack on SS is probably coming from her BF’s ex or another celeb with a personal beef. Or a former manager, ex-PR Rep, or another hanger-on.

I hope someone will stop the madness with this attack campaign.

Nice try. We know eugenics propaganda when we see it.

Genetic traits don’t make you a Nazi. Beliefs do. Your beliefs are insane so I guess you are insane.

So AE wants Moms for Liberty and MAGA grandmas to buy their jeans for teens who won’t wear them?

I guess that is A strategy.

I don’t find it offensive but find the ad to be pretty bad and I don’t think it’s particularly appealing to their target audience.

The core AE has been slowly declining as a brand for years (aerie is doing better) and taking operating losses and and I don’t see this reversing it. The bad advertising coupled with the backlash might make this the last gasp of the core AE.
