Stop tailgating me!

Because people will tailgate even if you are going above the speed limit in the right lane, and even if you are going many miles above the speed limit in the left lane. We live in Fairfax, and the aggressive driving is out of control.

I’ve been complaining throughout this thread that tailgating is a problem regardless of which lane or what speed you’re driving. I’ve experienced it all over Montgomery county.

I have not read all of these responses, but my absolute frustration comes on neighborhood roads (no possibility to pass) when the driver is going under the already low speed limit- like doing 20 in a 30mph zone. It’s so infuriating, especially when I need to get to work!

Please, please, just pass me using any of the empty lanes to the left of me.

So the troublesome tailgaters aren’t speeding at all. Interesting.

No. It means not all troublesome tailgaters are speeding, rather than no troublesome tailgaters are speeding.

My poor kid has been trying to get his driving hours in, and gets tailgated constantly. He is learning to drive and is going the speed limit or a bit over. People are horrible around here!

I just brake check them and collect a check from their auto insurer.

It's not limited to left lane these days.

Left lane is distance lane. The further one is going before exiting again, the further left they get in lanes. If one is exiting in just a mile or two, they stay in the far right lanes.

The whole "fast lane" thing got started cause of a rock song.

Um. What?

No, "slower traffic keep right" is literally the law in Virginia. And many other states.

Where on earth did you learn to drive? Because that is dead wrong.

Love the NJ DOT signs. Recently saw one that said “Hey dumb@ss! Tailgating gets you 5 points here.”

The one last night on 195 to the shore said “If you’re slow like a sea turtle get out of the left lane.”

Not after I show them the dash cam footage and they find you at fault. Brake checking is not legal

People like you are hwy dashcams are necessary.

Part of the problem on highways, at least, is adaptive cruise control. It leaves a gap and the person in front doesn't see or care that you are there and since the adaptive cruise control has kicked in, they think you are happy. The only recourse is to override the cruise control and get closer. If you stop being parked in the left lane, this won't happen and everyone is happy.

And no, at 60 in a 55 you are not one of the fast ones. Stay out of the left lane.

I bet 100% of the posters who can’t stop ranting about the left lane are men. And to the person about to pipe up, “Nope, I’m a woman,” I call bs.

Yeah, no. I have a dash camera and it would absolutely put you at fault if you caused an accident while breakchecking me.

If people are constantly tailgating you, you're in the wrong lane or are going too slow. Do not drive under the speed limit. I get not wanting to speed, but then just drive the speed limit.

Who under 85 uses cruise control?
