Are you day dreaming about me while you're out there cruising in the left lane, grandpa? Awww... If you can't handle active driving then maybe it's time for them to take your license. |
So you can't see cars that are close to you while you are driving. That's scary. They should pull your license. |
+infinity It's scary how many bad drivers there are, driving cars they can't handle. |
There are lots of bad drivers, lots of new drivers, lots of distracted drivers. Also lots of angry drivers, tailgating away. All of the above are problematic. Take a deep breath, accept reality, do your part to make the roads safer for pedestrians and cars. Don’t tailgate. |
| Stay out of the left lane. |
+1 Timely message from the New Jersey State Police’s Facebook page today: “Left Lane = Passing Lane In New Jersey, the left lane on highways is not for cruising — it’s for passing only. Staying in the left lane when you’re not actively passing other vehicles is not only dangerous, it’s also against the law. Here’s why it matters: - Keeps traffic flowing smoothly - Reduces road rage and aggressive driving - Lowers the risk of accidents - Helps emergency vehicles move efficiently When drivers misuse the left lane, it creates unnecessary congestion and frustration. If you’re not passing, move over — it’s safer for everyone on the road. Let’s work together to make New Jersey highways safer. Keep right. Pass left. Drive Smart.” Every other state has a similar law on the books. |
I see you didn't use the dumb LOL this time. At least I thought you SOMETHING. |
NP but you're talking about highways. Most of the tailgating I see comes on regular roads. I get it- everyone wants to be going 60 down the 45mph road, but there are cars absolutely everywhere. The left lane isn't a passing lane when there's bumper to bumper traffic in all directions. We can't just have a vacant lane when roads are way over capacity. The main issue is the amount of traffic lights everywhere. Who can get up to speed when there's a light every 1/4 mile? And none are timed, so you basically hit every single one of them. I think traffic lights increase road rage the most. |
And follow a few other rules that I learned way back when: 1. Be predictable. Don't slow down if you're lost or confused. Stay steady and look for the next turn. 2. Don't hover in blind spots. Come ON. You all should have learned this. 3. CHECK your blind spots. 4. Observe and remember. In driver class my instructor would ask us randomly, without checking the mirrors, who is around us. I always knew and still know to this day if there's someone behind me, or a line of cars or who is where. I am scanning constantly. FFS if you don't do these give up your license. |
The thing that increases road rage the most is drivers thinking no one matters but them. Some idiot was tailgating me this morning because I was going 25 on a local road as dozens of high school kids were walking to school. He ultimately passed me like a maniac and had to brake hard when a commuter crossed in an admittedly dangerous way. 25 is the speed limit for a very good reason. If you don't know that reason, look it up. |
+1 One of the biggest issue with drivers in the area is that they aren’t paying attention. You should notice that car approaching you before they start tailgating or honking. |
LOL. You’re complaining about tailgating in bumper to bumper traffic. Ok…
|
What exactly did you thought me?

The "Slower traffic keep right" law is applicable to ALL lanes in VA, with multiple lanes. Not just highways. That includes Route 7, GW Parkway, Old Keene Mill, Reston Parkway, Rt 1, etc. Of course it's not possible when things are bumper to bumper, but in light to moderate traffic flow, you should not be cruising in the left lane of ANY road. Especially at or below the speed limit. |
Teach not "thought." See, I'm doing it again. |
