You don’t need any of those things. Just be inclusive to everyone.

The AA students associations are in fact open to everyone. There were always a few non Asians in the membership. There is no "Asians only" requirement.

Seems like the name alone creates exclusions. If someone made a White Girl student association do you think a Black Man is going to feel welcome even if they claim no White or female requirement? DEI people always claim inclusion but create nothing but exclusion.

Okay, this argument is on its face nonsense, but let's just look at the philosophy here. How is ANYONE being hurt by not participating in a WOMEN in STEM club or an International club?
There is no harm, so why the frack do you care?

So I really am disappointed by this— as a women of color in engineering groups like swe and girls who code really encouraged me as a kid.

My kids school wouldn't allow formation of Girls Who Code, unless they set up a club for boys to join as well.

If they set up a Boys who code,or Whites who code, you’re ok with that right? Is it only special groups for certain people?

Honestly I think there is a minority of whites who code no adays

I do not think these comments are trolls. This is genuinely how many east coast, urban progressives think. They loathe white males.

Here's the problem - white people are the numerical majority in this country by a long shot. Black people are 13% of the population. Hispanic about 20%. Asian 6%. White is over 60%.

The day of the progressive is over. They can hate white people, they can hate males, but they will no longer be in power - their ideas are just not wanted by most americans. Your message that white males suck goes over like a lead balloon in texas, michigan, florida, colorado, arizonona, ohio, north carolina to name a few.

By all means, post on DCUM about how white males are stupid, unqualified, or lacking whatever. It will make you feel better!

Give me a break. No one hates males. They’re unqualified people in every race. Get over yourself. You’re sounding like a victim. Trump won 51% of the vote. Don’t get ahead of your skis.
FYI--Trump did NOT win 51% of the popular vote. He won less than 50%. (Almost 50% but not quite, which is important to note as he "overreaches" so significantly. He never had an "overwhelming mandate" so can and will easily alienate enough people to hopefully sink the GOP in the near future given that he was starting from a very, very narrow popular win.

But keep in mind that the media was 1,000 percent working against him on a daily basis, and the Biden administration had the benefit of incumbency and was using the full power of the federal government against him and supporting states like NY and GA to do the same, but Trump still won the Presidency, along with controlling the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, and the majority of state Governorships and legislatures. The national popular vote is misleading because large heavy Democrat states like California are written off by Republicans and they do not even campaign there, so a state that went 80-20 (or more) for Harris might have gone only 60-40 if Trump had devoted resources. But both candidates focused their resources in the seven close states (as they should) and Trump won those 7-0, not to mention a couple of Democrat states like Virginia that were much closer than expected. Trump did not have an overwhelming mandate like Reagan winning 49-1, but I would not underestimate his support by focusing on the popular vote either. A lot of people voted for what he is doing and are very happy that he is keeping his promises. If you don't like it, run a better candidate with a better message in 2028.

About time we end this unconstitutional nonsense.

The Civil Rights Act was also super clear on nondiscrimination based on race.

A ever complicated multicultural society like ours must be race blind.

Have you met MAGAs?

Unfortunately, yes.
My husband has wealthy white Southern parents. I was well aware before MAGA that these Republicans have been going MAGA for awhile. The “Heritage not Hate” justification 30 years ago for keeping the Confederate flag up on top of the South Carolina state house? The same Confederate flag that was put up in the 1960s to object to the Civil Rights Bill?
If you talked to any Republican back then they kept claiming “it’s history!” knowing darn well they were giving a middle finger to African Americans….

This white MAGA/far right Republicans/ radical Christian group will tell you one thing to save face, and laugh behind your back and do another. They have been this way for hundreds of years.

It feels like a pattern that will never be broken in America.

Yes, because white people have no problems blaming the bogeyman for all of the country's problems but won't empty their own closets of hoods, capes, and low hanging branches, both literal and figurative. I've yet to meet a white person, who isn't being paid to speak about it, talk about how it's shameful that their southern ancestors (i.e, blood ancestors) grabbed a few people and strung them up. I mean google images "public lynchings" and the pictures with 1000s of people participating are horrifying. These people and their offspring are walking amongst us now. They must number in the tens (or hundreds) of thousands.

1. Almost none of “these people” walk among us today. The vast majority are dead.

2. Do you hold every child responsible for the sins of their parents? For example, do you despise Latinos for their history of human sacrifice and slavery? Japanese for their brutality against native populations in WWII? Palestinians for their collaboration with Hitler?

Or is this a special standard that you only apply to “white people”?

None of these other groups are in the US trying to pretend their history doesn’t exist and trying to hide it.

Come on. 🤦

“Latino” or “hispanic” is it’s own category (rather than spaniard or indigenous South American) because the Spaniards who colonized what is now Latin America took indigenous wives. There was so much genetic mixing that we just say “Latino” and assume everyone speaks Spanish. Look up colorism in Latin America. It’s the equivalent of how the U.S.’s racism.

Brazil is huge and they speak Portuguese. Latin American is a common way to describe a person living in South America. They do have prejudices against people in other countries but kind of like your Northeast states vs Southern states. One thing most of them have in common is a mutual dislike for Argentinians.

You don't know what you are talking about.

But that is hard to enforce. That is why affirmative action HAD to be introduced. The whites in the establishment would not have budged to take on blacks in certain places, even if they wanted to (for fear of alienation from other whites). The oppression was deep, hard, and almost never ending. In 1964, there was little hope. I know people who are still in the workforce who remember being the first black student at their elementary school in NVA. The teasing, the hair puling, the kicking. The long nights up crying. Those people are heroes and I honor them. They didn't go to school to learn primarily. Rather, they went to school to set a precedent. I simply do not trust groups to be civil and open minded enough to take on those who are different from them. Racism will likely get worse.

Give me one example of schools using race as a factor when hiring someone or extending a scholarship to someone. Crickets.... schools are one place where racism isn't a factor. School age children haven't yet learned how to be racist at an early age. Perhaps us adults could learn something from our young children.

It is by third grade.

I disagree. You need to keep the kids together, so if the boys run ahead that is a safety issue. Best to time them and group them by speed and endurance.

I think you’re misremembering there buddy. The media did more to elect Trump than his ground game did. Unless you don’t consider Fox, Facebook, X, Joe Rogan, every Sinclair-owned outlet in this country, and the venerable Washington Post to be “media”.

So? Popular vote is not how you win, so it’s irrelevant. Democrats bring it up like it matters.

It’s like sayin 100% of people wearing blue shirts voted for Harris. So?

How ironic that you mention race base programs when you see that JK Rowling is trying to keep women who do not menstruate out of women's sports.

Ugh, really? Lots of biological females who are serious athletes sometimes stop having their periods when they are doing intense training, it's called secondary amenorrhea. Why do people like JK Rowling hate other biological females who don't fit their mold? Same goes for the obnoxious Karens who try to call police on butch-looking biological women when they go to the ladies' room like they're supposed to.

As a mom of two black boys, I’m OK with that. There is a real place for single sex education. We have taken our focus away from boys. I do believe they’ve suffered.

Boys haven’t suffered at all in this area. You do realize that the overwhelmingly majority of coding & math competitions at the middle school & Highschool level are boys?
The boys will often push out a smart & competent girl in coding as the boys will form groups only with their bros. I have heard boy parents justify it as “well there aren’t as many girl high up so why take the risk?” It utter BS.
