I Tried It So You Don't Have To

Toby's Ice Cream in Vienna. I've had a lot of bad ice cream in my life, and theirs is in the top 5. Lots of ice, not much cream.

Every chicken sandwich. Not talking about fried chicken. But when you get it grilled or blackened it's never good no matter how they try to fancy it up with aioli or avocado. I think the chicken pieces are just too thick and not tenderized. Why can't anyone get this right?

I couldn’t agree more. But on a lark I tried the new Cheesecake Factory Chicken Shawarma Pita and it’s delicious and the chicken pieces were perfectly grilled

The Trader Joe's Angus meatballs (raw). You just plop them on a Pam-sprayed cookie sheet and oven for 20 minutes. They were well-flavored and I liked them.

Since the "use by" date was a week after the date I bought them, I made all of them at once and now will have leftovers for at least three meals this week.

Wegman's brand sour cream and onion ripple chips. They taste overcooked and dark if that makes sense. I haven't tried their other chips but maybe name brand is the only way to go.

Try the Boulder brand of potato chips. They are my new favorite.

I disagree. The WF organic mayo is disgusting. The regular mayo tastes like Hellmann’s used to taste before they changed it.

I spotted Wise chips (from PA) at the same time so going back to see if those pass the test of time.

My kids would.rsther get ice cream or a different treat, given a choice, so it is not just me. (We didn't know about all the social media buzz before we tried them the first time or two...then we tried one because I'd the buzz and still no one liked them).

Same. I don't know why but they are unpalatable.

Latest try was his oven fried chicken wings. Followed the recipe. Got the wings from Whole Foods ($$$). Followed the recipe. Only difference was I turned on the convection feature for the last 15 minutes because they didn't look crispy. They tasted baked, not oven fried.

I've given his recipes several tries. I think he's all about diverging from traditional techniques. While it's fun to try new techniques, so far his recipes are batting zero for me.

Gonna disagree. Completely. They make the best baked chicken wings. His sauces are also spot on. I've done every recipe for baked wings you can try and I've stuck to this one. They need to sit in that baking powder/salt/whatever mix and be dry before you bake them.
