Trump. “It doesn't cost 60,000 bucks to bury a f###ing Mexican!”

I read 2 pages of comments before I couldn't deal with the ensuing riot, but still want to say this:
1. The Atlantic isn't just some rag, the magazine has been around since it was a pro-abolition magazine before the Civil War started.
2. According to the article, the funeral services were partly covered by donations and partly by the Army
3. I remember reading about the murder because it was very big news, and there were many other deaths --39 total in 2020. For active and reserve military out of 36,500 soldiers the expected death count without hostilities or terrorism would be 22. (OTOH civilian life is a lot worse. If you have 36,500 25-year-olds, SSA tables say 70 will be gone within the year).
4. The woman's family is free to regard Trump any way they want to. I'm sure it's not pleasant if your family gets pulled into a media debate. But the rest of us have a right and a responsibility to know the character of our would-be leaders, and Trump's low character is very, very well documented. If they are Republicans and who appreciated the attention from him, fine. But we also know how unlikely it is Trump ever gave any families money who did need it, no matter what he says. This is the guy whose charitable foundation was dissolved by the state of New York and whatever assets it had were distributed to other charities because of misuse of funds. If he misuses charities he makes public, what kind of charity is he at all likely to engage in privately?
5. Anonymous sources led to the criminal convictions of Nixon's men. It would be better if people had the guts to come forward (in Nixon's case there was an ongoing criminal conspiracy and good reason to keep the source secret) but plenty of people (Milley, Kelly for example) who have had the guts and aren't political (or at least not entirely political) characters have come forward and are credible.

Nobody really has to decide on the basis of one part of an article (by a highly respected journalist) that ends up being fought over on Twitter. It comes down to the guy's patterns of behavior and character traits and there's plenty of evidence of his slimy soul.

Dems were stupid to push this story. It shows President Trump is a hell of a negotiator which we need to end the Ukraine, Iran and Taiwan disasters.

You should read the article and see what kind of services took place.

There were two funerals, one public that went on for 8 hours. The mayor and Houston police chief were there. There was a private funeral with hundreds of cars in a caravan. Relatives came from Mexico to attend. There was a police motorcycle motorcade escorting the limos. Streets were closed. At the private funeral there was a horse drawn carriage carrying the casket.

Probably about what Trump charges the Secret Service when he's at Mar a Lago for Easter weekend.

A friend of mine lost her mother. Friend is basically broke but the relatives expected burial in a particular part of the Catholic cemetery, they expected bagpipes, they expected lavish flowers. She went into credit card debt for $12k and it took her 3 years to pay it off. These days an average funeral if you're doing a traditional version, embalming, casket, etc is $8k to $12k, some sources say 10 to 20k. This was one big public funeral with police motorcade and a private (But also big) funeral.

What is this? A game of telephone? 13 year old girls don’t even gossip or slander this much. Americans aren’t putty in the political elites’ and media’s hands anymore and they’re going to get that reality check on November 5th.

The ten year long Trump smear campaign has failed and only helped boost Trumps popularity. It’s his third campaign and he’s still the underdog candidate

This incident happened 4 years ago, supposedly.

But it comes out in October of 2024, approximately 12 days before the election?

With anonymous sources.

Hmmmm.

Trump is repulsive. Not voting for him. Sorry!

Can you imagine being Haitian and living in Springfield Ohio? The abject lying about a county of 30,000 people being over run with 60,000 immigrants (false) and then begriming said immigrants with the narrative that they are stealing people's pets and eating them thus causing the brainwashed "self investigators" to descend into the little hamlet causing violence and disruption is simply disgusting. Why won't you hold candidates for office to the same standard you purport to hold certain journalists?

Everyone in Springfield is feeling it.

I cant believe anyone believes this stuff. Especially the one about Trump keeping Mein Kampf on his bedstand. Spare me.

I seriously do not like Trump. And stuff like this gives a lots credibility to the whole “fake news” narrative - because it does indeed seem fake AF. In a way, articles like this actually help him, because he gets to demonstrate that he indeed WAS right about the media.

For the record, I also think Kamala is a horrible prospect, picking Walz instead of Shapiro was an idiotic move, and what the donors did to Biden was shameful. This whole election makes me want to get in the shower and scrub myself of it.

I’m giving serious thought to just writing in my own name for president. I’m in Maryland, so my vote doesn’t really matter anyway. But whatever happens won’t be my fault because I’m not voting for either of them.

It wasn’t Mein Kampf, it was a book of Hitler’s speeches. And the reporting is from a giant feature story in Vanity Fair decades before he ever entered politics. When the reporter asked him about it, Trump said “who told you that?” instead of denying it. https://archive.vanityfair.com/article/share/e515a2cd-a51b-4f83-8d61-6ebb9a104e0a

And all of the people in the room deny it happened. Even the sister of the soldier supported Trump and said he was kind to their family.

This slander is from the Harris campaign and liberal media, who are desperate because she’s losing.

If it's slander, then let him sue for defamation. The Atlantic is a reputable news source. Your armchair QB opinion as well as that of her sister isn't.
