In april 2020, Vanessa Guillén, a 20-year-old Army private, was bludgeoned to death by a fellow soldier at Fort Hood, in Texas. The killer, aided by his girlfriend, burned Guillén’s body. Guillén’s remains were discovered two months later, buried in a riverbank near the base, after a massive search.

Guillén, the daughter of Mexican immigrants, grew up in Houston, and her murder sparked outrage across Texas and beyond. Fort Hood had become known as a particularly perilous assignment for female soldiers, and members of Congress took up the cause of reform. Shortly after her remains were discovered, President Donald Trump himself invited the Guillén family to the White House. With Guillén’s mother seated beside him, Trump spent 25 minutes with the family as television cameras recorded the scene.
In the meeting, Trump maintained a dignified posture and expressed sympathy to Guillén’s mother. “I saw what happened to your daughter Vanessa, who was a spectacular person, and respected and loved by everybody, including in the military,” Trump said. Later in the conversation, he made a promise: “If I can help you out with the funeral, I’ll help—I’ll help you with that,” he said. “I’ll help you out. Financially, I’ll help you.”

At a certain point, according to two people present at the meeting, Trump asked, “Did they bill us for the funeral? What did it cost?”

According to attendees, and to contemporaneous notes of the meeting taken by a participant, an aide answered: Yes, we received a bill; the funeral cost $60,000.

Trump became angry. “It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a fxxxing Mexican!” He turned to his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and issued an order: “Don’t pay it!” Later that day, he was still agitated. “Can you believe it?” he said, according to a witness. “Fxxxing people, trying to rip me off.”

Trump is a monstrosity. He is a disgrace to the office of the president. I am so pissed off.

Democrats are so darn gullible. Then again they are still going on about Russiagate and Jan6.

How could you not?

Laurene Powell's Emerson Collective is a majority owner of The Atlantic, in which this story appeared. Powell is best friends with - and a major donor to - Kamala Harris. Such a very interesting connection, here!

"Consider the long-time friendship between Kamala Harris and billionaire donor Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs. The New York Times described the women as being so close that they've gone on vacation together and consider each other family. Powell Jobs sat in Harris' exclusive friends and family suite at the DNC last month. She was also instrumental in getting Biden to step down to clear the way for Harris; one of her top aides circulated a polling memo to other key influential donors that allegedly showed Biden's inability to win.

It was another example of a megadonor overcoming the will of the people—and making things worse for voters. Now that the Kool-Aid from the DNC is wearing off, people are waking up to the realities of an untested candidate. Harris is barely beating Biden in key swing state polls, dodges questions from the press, and continually gaffes answers on significant policy issues. She can barely answer basic questions about her plans for regular people in friendly encounters with people like Oprah."

I hate trump more than anyone, but I have to admit, I’m starting to feel like I’m getting punked with stories like this coming out every week that fall apart after 24 hours of scrutiny. The only place they still get traction a day later is in forums like this one, with comments from people like me.

I’m getting close to just being done with this whole politics thing.

Gee what a coincidence

Very believable.

I don't need to believe it and I don't care about these he said she said stupid stories. What Trump absolutely did do as confirmed by his children and staff under oath is completely abandon the POTUS job and the American people for 187 minutes while hundreds of nutjobs roamed our US Capitol Building looking for prominent leaders to "hang". No Trump "supporter" can argue or deny this. This is absolutely what happened. My very reasonable question to those that defend him is why and how knowing no other POTUS in our history has or would abandon their job and country in such a moment? How? Most of our early presidents would have rode down on horseback and fought them off bare handed. Trump ignored all pleas for help for over 2 hours. Coward-in-Chief is what he was in that moment and I can't give him a second chance after that. How can anyone? Please explain

Maybe clean up your socials?

I read the NYT, WSJ and WaPo. All the dirt therein has been fact checked and confirmed. When they get it wrong, they retract.

NP. You have got to be kidding me. Are you truly this naive?

Can you imagine being Vanessa Guillen’s family right now being drug into debased politics? The story by The Atlantic shows nothing is sacred any more and journalism is dead. It is disgusting.

This is all Trump’s fault. And the people who didn’t care that he dragged everything “sacred” down into the mud.

You all celebrated that Trump broke norms and wasn’t civil. You loved it. You cheered when he cursed in public, called people names, was rude and nasty. This is what you wanted. The tearing down of our civil discourse. So you don’t even blink when he swears in front of children or calls his opponent the enemy within and cusses her out. You applauded his doing it. This is what you get.

Can you imagine being Haitian and living in Springfield Ohio? The abject lying about a county of 30,000 people being over run with 60,000 immigrants (false) and then begriming said immigrants with the narrative that they are stealing people's pets and eating them thus causing the brainwashed "self investigators" to descend into the little hamlet causing violence and disruption is simply disgusting. Why won't you hold candidates for office to the same standard you purport to hold certain journalists?

Trump's republican party is brainwashed, but there are still many of us Republicans who are aware of who we're dealing with and don't want to see him destroy our country.

Kelly, Trump's own Chief of Staff, shared Trump is what his worst critics say he is.

Do. Not. Vote. For. Trump. He wants to turn us into North Korea.

“He commented more than once that, you know, that Hitler did some good things, too,” General Kelly said.
