Your kid got a single and you are complaining?! DC can swap that with 100 kids in a hot (ha ha) second when they get to school. |
I doubt anyone is going to want a single that badly that they will agree to a hot corner basement room!! |
At least your kid gets a room. When my oldest arrived at an ivy several years ago, his dorm was a common room with barracks-style bunks.
Luckily the university was able to get the 12 students out of that terrible living condition and into a traditional dorm within a few weeks, but it was a terrible start to his college career. |
You're wrong. |
Please share the name of the Ivy League schools so that we can better understand the situation. |
It's not going to be a hot corner room. Also - corner is a great location to be close to more rooms and a place everyone needs to pass by. Much better than at the end of the hall. |
Wow - that is a hard start. |
Pomona forecast for today, 10 pm is 75 degrees. That's not a humid 75. There is a massive difference between dry heat and east coast humidity. I wonder if OP has visited. |
Still wondering why OP thinks a basement room in SoCal is going to be hot at night... |
A double (or triple) upper floor w/o ac is worse. |
It's unlikely that this room is the only one without AC in the building, so there are kids in doubles and maybe triples on hotter upper floors. I am kind of amazed that schools have singles going to freshmen in the regular housing lottery these days. I know so many more kids who have requested singles due to more kids with ASD, anxiety, and medical issues going to college, that I think many schools are struggling to meet the need. |
I'll also point out that corner room is fantastic because you only have 1/2 the noise from neighbors. Surely OP's not complaining about that too? |
I think they haven't spent time there. I get cold almost every day in SoCal when it has been hot and the sun goes down. 70's without humidity is chilly - especially if the daytime was hot and I have hot weather clothing on. There are "layers" I need for my time in CA that I never use in DC. |
Just start planning. Buy a portable chiller for the room. |
And, count your blessings on a single room. No arguments. No differing schedules with tip toeing around while other sleeps. Quietness to study. No one eats all of your snacks. |
