Except then she went and put on the gaudy red and blue dresses for the other day. So someone saw this Oatmeal Mistake of Great Depression and got her to a stylist for every other event, and she complied.

I’m the poster who thinks she dresses like shit and those red and blue dresses weren’t gaudy at all! They looked right at home at the DNC or an RNC in better times lol.

But please Usha honey if you can read this, burn those disgusting flat brown mary janes

You know, I understand her MO about wanting to look understated. But there is an ENTIRE trend (quiet luxury a la Succession) centered around how to be minimal with while still remaining hot, not to mention a ZILLION products to achieve the “no-makeup makeup” look. She couldve put together a better ensemble from Eileen Fisher and the local drugstore than what she did.. woof

I am the PP and I thought the red and blue dresses were actually pretty perfect for the occasion. I was just mirroring the language of the person I was responding to.

If she weren't part of, you know, I'd find it hilariously relatable to end up in that terrible outfit. Like she thought she was running out to get some arugula and accidentally found herself at the RNC while her husband was being announced as VP. That's like an actual nightmare.

Red dress - great
Beige dress - not great

Some stylist will descend and she'll have an appearance wardrobe of dresses like the red and blue ones.

The red dress is the best of the three by far. Though the blue color really popped for her. If she can manage the red as her SLOTUS-nominee style, it will work for her

+1 I would have added a necklace to the red dress but otherwise it is great.

This kind of exemplifies why this place is nuts. Until Monday, Usha could have been a frequent DCUM poster: DC lawyer mom with three small kids and a husband who seems pretty focused on his own career and seems to have evolved in a pretty negative way through the years. But suddenly this (mostly) normal person is getting all this criticism that she did not put enough makeup on to deal with the convention and TV lights? C'mon I have been clicking on some of your fashion links for years. Let me say I am skeptical that the vast majority of DCUM posters would have made better fashion choices in the same circumstances.

There is a difference between the scenarios you are describing. My coworker with three little kids and a shitty husband doesn’t wear makeup to work? Fine. No qualms from me, do whatever you want.

Woman - whose husband’s party has some pretty regressive views about women - goes on stage at a televised convention with no makeup and ratty hair? No one is calling her a troll just saying what was she thinking.

Her dress was fine. But yes I would’ve gotten a blow out and at least put on more than lip balm to sell America on why they should vote for my misogynist husband who complains about other women being “frumpy cat ladies.”

Her dress, hair, and makeup look fine. I remember many people ripping on Amy Coney Barett for not having a blowout. What is this, 1982 feminism? As long as she’s groomed and dressed appropriately, she’s fine. She doesn’t need 90 minutes in the makeup chair to be in the spotlight.

SHE WASNT GROOMED OR DRESSED APPROPRIATELY. That is the argument people are making. A jersey lounge dress and unkempt hair is not appropriate!

Amy Coney Barrett looked lovely. She didn’t look like she overslept and threw on a dress.

I'm so confused. What pictures are you all looking at? I'm seeing a royal blue sheath dress with an off-the-shoulder sleeve that fits perfectly and looks great on her, I'm not seeing a "jersey lounge dress."

It's a sloppy, ill fitting dress with beat up espadrille flats. She looks like she's going to the farmer's market on a Saturday.

This looks fine. It isn't stunning, like the blue dress she wore onstage, but it didn't need to be. She's not a clothes horse.

I lthink these shoes are pikolinos Vallarta

Well they need to be plunked in the trash.

I just don’t understand why she looks so much older than she is , at least in the beige. I can’t believe she’s only 38.

I think it’s pretty traditional to have a makeup artist and stylist for the convention for the top two.

She has a lot of grays. Probably not enough to bother dying her hair but enough to be noticeable which is what is aging her. I don't blame her for starting upkeep just yet tho.

Agreed but her fan poodles here are acting like this was a complete shock. Like one morning she was just going about girl bossing at her big law job and by lunch she was swept away to Milwaukee spur of the moment.

She knew he was in the running and she had ample time/money to prep.

It’s the grays + ashy, washed out skin + poorly fitting bra

I just can't imagine not wearing makeup to be on television. Even Don Jr. said "I don't like getting my makeup done, but hey, in hi-def, you better."

It's not a girl boss move to look sloppy on TV. You can be about female empowerment and look presentable.

Although this discussion is a moot point because Usha is neither for female empowerment (maybe her own financial empowerment) or presentable.

Your DH needs to get a life.

I love that she isn't wearing heels. Good for her!

Also, maybe she has foot injuries or something.

I'm jealous that pp's husband even knows what an espadrille IS.

Lol ... no you aren't. Trust me.
