Do Your Teenage Boys Still Wear Pajamas?

I think it’s interesting that this post is so long lived and active. Gotta love DCUM.

In an anonymous forum where people are free to reveal things about themselves they probably wouldn’t reveal otherwise, any post like this is going to be popular. People get to admit they like nudity, sleep nude, other family members and friends do too, etc. all without their identity being known. It’s an outlet for certain things that are otherwise always kept private.

I also think this topic brings out a skewed viewpoint. Consumer surveys show that the vast majority of people don't sleep 100% nude, so I don't believe for a minute that the percentage of teenage boys who only wear their birthday suits to bed is more than single digits.

Teenage boys in the US are most likely to sleep in boxers/t-shirts or boxers/no shirt.

I don't know, I don't think those comsumer surveys necessarily are very accurate too.

I can't imagine how bizarre it would be if people living in dorms were sleeping nude. At my school, that would have been a recipe for disaster. People were always popping in and out of their rooms. What if you go to bed naked at 10 then your roommate comes by with his girlfriend at 11:30 after studying at the library and you've kicked off your sheets?!

I'm really, really glad that my parents didn't believe in being naked in front of us kids. I just don't need those images in my mind. And I'm glad they didn't make us girls be naked in front of them or our brother and vice versa, especially after any of us hit puberty.

Certainly it’s going to be a skewed viewpoint. If the question is about wearing less or nothing in bed, then the overwhelming number of respondents are going to be people who wear less or nothing in bed, or in this case, their kids. That doesn’t mean they’re in the majority in society as a whole, although I do think the percentage of American male teens who sleep nude is probably significantly higher than single digits.

I don’t think this is a thing. You just start wearing clothes again for the time you have a roommate sharing a room with you. When I went to college, I only slept nude when my roommate was away for the weekend or when I was home on weekends or breaks, and then resumed nightly nude sleeping my junior year when I moved into a flat where we all had our own rooms. Not an issue. I think most kids can figure things like this out on their own.

+1. Absolutely agree, of course you adapt to the situation. I am sure that boys who sleeps naked at home also wear something to sleepovers, camps and so on.

Yeah, nobody HAS to sleep a certain way in every single context. You assess every situation as it comes and determine whether you can carry on normally or whether you have to modify your usual behaviors temporarily even if it’s not exactly what you would prefer. Kids are legally adults by the time they go to college. Let’s give them a little more credit.

When l was in college my summer job was as a counselor/ lifeguard at a church camp. The youngest kids were 8 or so and it went up to high school. The boys, even the youngest ones, pretty much universally slept in just shorts, or even just underwear. Some wore a shirt to bed, but it was uncommon. I don't recall anyone sleeping nude, but given that shirts weren't to be found, I would be really surprised if none of them got rid of the shorts/ underwear in the privacy of their own room. I would be greatly surprised if less than 10% of boys sleep naked, especially the teenagers.

+1. If my teen sons are anything to go by it really isn't that uncommon.

+1. But I also think that a lot of boys start sleeping in the nude from the onset of puberty - at least that was the case with my
DS (14).

I just don’t think it is that common to sleep nude, but I have a limited sample size!

More for loungewear than for actual sleepwear by the teenage years I think.

Yes, I think that could be an important factor. That would make it seem like an acceptable choice for the son and that would make it harder for the parents not to accept it.
