Do Your Teenage Boys Still Wear Pajamas?

Oh gosh, why is this thread so long? I don’t understand who cares if boys were PJs..

Perhaps because there really aren't many other places where you talk about things like this.

I think because OP asked pertaining to her son.

This plus in general I think wearing less or going to bed naked seems to be more a of a guy thing whereas pajamas are more popular with girls into adulthood. In our house the women/girls all wear some sort of sleepwear and the men/boys all wear nothing. I can’t imagine myself or any of my girlfriends having gone totally nude in bed as teenagers, obviously aside from the occasional summer heat wave.

+1. Exactly the same in this house.

My DS (16) sleeps in the nude here at home. He doesn't like to feel constricted when he sleeps and hates wearing clothes to bed but when he sleeps any where else he wears boxers and a t-shirt.

Seriously. This is such a bizarre thread people need lives.

What do they wear? And what do you want them to wear? And why do you care?

I think it is pretty normal for men and teenage boys to only wear birthday suits to bed. Unless you’re a boy under 10 or a man over 60, pajamas or any sleep attire on guys just scream nerd, dweeb, geek, spaz, dork etc.

I agree with you that it is not uncommon for teen boys to sleep in their birthday suits but I don't think they are geeks if they wear sleepwear. Boys just have different preferences.

The only time he wears PJs to bed is at camp or at a sleep over. At home he sleeps in his underwear.

Wearing PJs outside the house just seems so strange to me.

Yes a classroom e.g. should not look like a dorm .

Ha, ha, that's quite funny but yes you are so right!

Retailers market them as "loungewear" now to try to encourage (???) this

Not as many people wear formal sleepwear as once was the case, so naturally companies who sell it will rebrand it for a slightly different use (i.e. relaxation instead of slumber) in order to remain relevant. It’s just a good marketing tactic. I don’t agree with wearing pjs in public, but to relax in one’s home, why not.

+ It seems like there is a much bigger selection in lounge-/nightwear - call it what you want - for girls than for boys.

Yes, I have noticed that too!

Our two boys began sleeping in their underwear last summer. They both had worn pj’s up to then. Our 14 year old went to a summer camp. He had taken pajamas, but when he came home, he said that all of the boys slept in their underwear, and he had too. He asked if it was OK if he could continue to wear just his underwear to bed. Of course, we said it was fine. His 13 year old brother quickly began sleeping in his underwear too. It’s nice to have less laundry each week.

+1. Same with my DS (13). It seems like many boys drop PJs after being to camp and less laundry is a bonus.

To bed? Or to lounge in?

They probably put some clothes on

Yes it really isn't that big of a deal.

Yes they are great for loungewear but I don't think many teen boys use them as actual sleepwear.
