Maryland with B1G Ten UMD, Annapolis, Georgetown and Hopkins all in a 30 mile radius is a superior academic environment. |
In state = 13th Grade |
Thinking like that = 2nd grade |
2nd grade to be fair is one the best years of most people’s lives |
I have no issue with UMD but Virginia has better affordable options for the highest achievers; it just does. I grew up in Virginia and went to UVA. I would also have been happy at W&M, or at least I considered going there. In-state was what my parents could afford and it was a fantastic deal. My family is in Maryland and I do not want to limit my kids to in-state. |
In my case, 2nd grade was the best two years of my life. |
Highest achievers ? UMD alum Larry David - Seinfeld Jim Henson- muppets David Simon - the wire Kenny Kramm- FlavorX Alex Severinsky - hybrid engine Harry Smith- pulse Doppler radar Kevin Plank- underarmour Sergey Brin - Google George Laurer - the Universal Price Bar Code Robert Briskman - launched Sirius Satellite James Clark - soft contact lenses Robert Fischell- artificial pancreas, flexible artery stents , rechargeable pacemaker Russell Marker- the octane system Tim Sweeney- Epic Games / Fortnite George Danzig- linear programming Carl Bernstein- Broke Watergate Much larger achievers and world/culture/economic impact than any UVA grass of modern times. Additionally UMD has more Nobel, Pulitzer, Academy Award, Emmy, Fields medal alumni than all the Virginia schools put together. That’s why it’s in the B1G 10. |
+1. $10K credit towards out of state tuition at any state school. Gives our kids some flexibility and options.. |
UVA is superior academically, although you’re right to call out my “high achieving” wording as narrow-minded. |
Lol, no, it’s similar to uiuc that way |
Fran Drescher and Jerry Seinfeld went to Queens College in NYC. Does that mean I get to have a top rated TV show if I go there?
Comparing alumni success to the college is stupid |
dp.. I don't think either of those people are great successes in terms of entertainment. UVA boosters love to mention how many Rhodes Scholars UVA produced as a marker of how UVA is top rated. So, why wouldn't the success of alumni be any different? |
Unsubstantiated claim. |
Do some Google (UMD alum invention) research The lack of tangible results from UVA alum is kind of funny. |
Superior in the easy majors inferior in the rigorous majors. Explains the lack of B1G alumni world impact. |
