No. But go ahead and have that conversation, if you want to. It's just not what the conversation was about at the time. |
Have DH take you a new glass of water whenever you need..... Once he gets in 10,000 steps by 9:00 a.m. he'll have a talk with them |
NP. FIL was mentioned, but as FIL was not the actual person going into the guest bedroom and taking not only glassware, but OP’s actual, personal property, I don’t think he’s equally responsible. He’s responsible for not telling his wife to knock it off, but MIL alone is responsible for the insane action of going into the guest room and taking OP’s own property. |
Doing something on a regular basis or being a “neat freak” does not mean someone has OCD.
The MIL was rude for taking Op’s water bottle and going into her room. People can be rude without having OCD. My dd is very open about her OCD. She is also one of the messiest people I know. As long as Op isn’t leaving glasses in each room so she always has a drink available, MIL needs to relax. If Op is doing that, she needs to use one at a time. Perhaps stay somewhere else next time since there are no boundaries (entering the guest room) and odd “rules.” |
+1. Not allowing an adult guest to have a drink outside the kitchen seems ridiculously controlling for no good reason. |
HOTEL.
She's nuts, but it's her house. |
OP what's the water situation today?
Did get one of those water bottle waist packs to prove your point? |
I have kids and dogs, so I don’t get why you would keep glasses half-full of water around. That’s just a mess waiting to happen. I do understand why there would be water bottles out. |
…because someone is currently drinking from it? |
I’m a neat freak and I hate clutter, but I would never clear a guest’s water glass (unless they have multiple glasses scattered around the house - my SIL does this) or go into their room and take their water bottle!
Does she “close the kitchen” too? |
Thanks for that memory. I'm going to spend the rest of the day crying in the corner. |
Just grab a delicious piece of fruit from the breakfast bar and EAT IT OUTSIDE! |
MIL is going to lose her mind when the baby comes. Is she going to empty out and wash the bottles? |
Well I hope so because refilling one bottle all day long is pretty gross without washing it. Baby gets a fresh bottle every feeding. |
This is so weird OP, definitely ocd of some sort, they may not be willing to control it at this point.
My parents were like this about lights being "left on," like everyone else had their floor plan memorized in the dark. Wouldn't stop until my spouse injured themselves coming quickly out of a door when it was completely dark. Parent had turned off the hall light while spouse was in the bathroom! Parents heard the sound as spouse accidentally hit the wall. Then we could come up with a compromise. I would either cut the visit short, or hide your own water bottle in the guest room room or in your suitcase for this trip. No more coaster use in the guest room, as MIL sees that as a sign to grab whatever is on it. |
