A lot of people are referencing 9 hour days, like this is the standard. I always thought 8 hours was the standard? My job is actually 7 hours per day, but I know that isn't super common. 9 hours seems like a lot. |
Now if you were in office I would have you work till 530 or six every day so your job is out 10-12 hours each week. That is a bigger driver RTO people at home should work more not less hours. |
If you’re going to keep faking that you manage people, please learn English. “Too much distractions”? |
Since I've WFH I can volunteer in our town more often, eat healthier food, work out more, and oh yeah am more productive than before. I go in every couple of weeks to have some facetime with the youngs and help them but I'd prefer they work from home and actually get stuff done rather than spend all day discussing their upcoming ping pong tournaments. |
This is because a lot of boomer middle managers don't really contribute much to the companies they work for. They just walk around all day and "manage" (annoy) their subordinates, and schedule pointless meetings to waste everyone's time. They're concerned that if their bosses realize employees don't need this middle layer of deadwood to remain productive, they'll get rid of them. |
If I had a job where going to the office and interacting with others made no difference in terms of doing the job or advancing professionally I’d look for another. Sitting in front of a computer in a makeshift office in my basement and having no human interaction all day besides my kids would depress and bore me to tears. It’s like you’ve decided to live like we’re in a pandemic for the rest of your life. |
I honestly don't believe they are all boomers. I don't think this is a "boomer vs non-boomer" argument. |
The boomer bashing is getting old. Just admit that you want to work from home because it’s easier for you and enables you to slack off without fear. |
Some of us have hobbies, civic organizations, churches, etc where we get our interaction. You're not morally superior because you want yours through work. |
I just met my buddy for lunch and we were laughing about good old days of remote with our 2-4 laptops out making mad money,
Six paychecks each month was sweet. I will miss it. My SS was crazy as doing it three jobs at once!! Isn’t that enough reason to stop WFH? No one cares if fired when you have back up jobs. And bosses are stooooopid. I had balls to fire two people for overemployment while I had 3 jobs. No patience as I need them to do their work as I got three jobs and can’t babysit |
Crazies are out in full force. Maybe full moon. |
PP. I'm a lawyer in private practice, so whether or not I'm being productive is easily apparent to my firm. And working from home makes me more productive. I can start my workday when my kids are out the door at 7:30, and rather than wasting an hour or so every day commuting to and from work, I can actually bill time during what would otherwise be dead time. Commuting to and from work just to sit in front of a different set of computer screens is inefficient. (though I'm actually in the office right now because I needed logistical support from my secretary and a paralegal) |
8-5 is 9 hours. |
Govt is 8.5 hr days |
. Except if you’re doing any of that when you’re supposed to be working - and you know you are - then you’re morally inferior. In fact, you’re a cheater. It also doesn’t change that fact that spending 8 to 10 hours a day in complete isolation is depressing. |
