OP here. No issues so far. Had a hot chocolate mid day with 7 g but I’m really craving peanut M&M’s. They have 13g added sugar so it fits into my day so long as my DH polishes off the last 4 Thin Mints.
I’ve had a big bowl of yogurt and fruits, some nuts, roasted vegetables, a serving of cheese and the hot chocolate. I think I’ll go for a walk and if I still want them after the walk, I’ll buy a bag. |
Did not get the M&M’s! Ended the day at 18g. Had the rest of the thin mints. |
You did great, OP! I thought of you and this thread because DD and are working a GS cookie booth later today and there will be lots of Thin Mints. ![]() I was probably a little over 24g yesterday since DH and had a date night and split a piece of cake for dessert. But had plain Cheerios for breakfast today and just a little vanilla syrup with my coffee. Feeling great! |
Thanks for the encouragement! My DD got her birthday box from her aunt with cookies and I had 4 yesterday. Definitely over the goal, BUT I also wanted doughnuts and I didn’t get any. Today I’m going to keep to 24g or less. I have that yucky taste in my mouth and a light headache from too much sugar yesterday. I need to plan my day out so I don’t screw up. Maybe I’ll try for zero today to compensate for yesterday. DD birthday is Tuesday and I need to make a cake so Tuesday will be over.
Most sweets aren’t all that good anyways. It’s funny how addictive they are. |
You’ve got this, OP. We all have our bumpy days. The point about most sweets not being all that good is what I’m realizing. Like, I could have this thing but… meh. I’m also realizing how much added sugar is in things it has no business being in. I know I’m late to that party, but sheesh! I’ve found that many of the standard products from Aldi tend to have less added sugar than other stores, which is helpful. |
It is not required that you eat any of the cake you make on Tuesday. |
Same - it's a very helpful new awareness for me. |
Thank you both. You are very sweet. As for the birthday cake, the fact is being part of celebrations often means eating something sweet. Kind of a weird cultural thing I guess but nobody likes to be celebrating a birthday with the mom sitting out the cake. But your point is well taken and of course I can make my own choices. Today is going well so far, no added sugar yet and lunch should be the same. Thinking of doing a stirfry for dinner and sometimes I put a teaspoon of sugar in the sauce but that’s still only 4 g. It is true that once you start looking at where added sugar is, it’s a little surprising. I don’t eat much bread but pretty much any kind of bread has 2 to 4 g per slice. |
Ezekiel bread has 0g per slice. And it is delicious. |
Poster from the other day, here. Went to a party last night and felt good about how I navigated dessert. There were several bite size desserts. I chose one. A few weeks ago, before I started following this thread, I would have taken one of each. The temptation was there, but truly enjoyed the one I had and more proud of being able to just walk away. Even with it, stayed under 25g for the day |
That's it! That's really the key! Great work. I'm proud of you. I like the limit because it gives me a budget. I like budgets! And then we can focus our calories on more nutritious foods instead of wasting them on empty sugar calories. |
OP back--I'm doing fine, though I did make a hot chocolate on this raw day. I also did a workout and my chores and had a big bowl of vegetables with leftover chicken for lunch. Oatmeal with banana and blueberries for breakfast. On track for less than 15 g today. |
Dessert poster here, thanks for the positive reinforcement. Feels good to have this anonymous team in my corner. |
It’s hard to talk about this stuff in real life because it feels strange. That’s why I started this thread. I know I am doing better because of it. I’m so glad to help you today. |
Pizza and one small Reese’s PB cup that DH brought home from work for me. Under 25 g today for me! |
