I’m a Harvard grad too. Had a wonderful four years and it changed my life. All this thread shows is that those who can’t get in have to dump on it |
Clean up your alma mater before you come back here. |

| Harvard is like the Tory Burch of schools these days. Pay for the label but not a quality product. So many better options out there! |
Harvard is a club, not a product. You couldn't care about the quality of the product. You pay for the access. |
| Harvard is using the likes of Kim Kardashian to educate their students. So, there. |
Very fitting with the latest coming out of Harvard. They are paying for the Kim Kardashian label, not a quality of the product. Pay for access. |
"ACCESS AND RICHES" is Harvard's new motto. They will soon become a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs |
She's a knucklehead who managed to turn a sex tape into a billion or so dollars. She's far more successful than 99.9% of HBS grads. |
I'd rather be one of the HBS grads making a living doing something that has value for the rest of the world and scraping by on $500k/year. |

Does anyone really pay for the quality of education beyond a minimum threshold? Elite schools are mostly about the brand and network. Class substance and lectures are often similar at schools of various levels.
Most people know that at places like Harvard and Stanford, the professors are focused on their research and work with their grad students. The schools themselves only value undergrads to a certain degree. |
I never went there, but I lived near there and used some services there that were open to the public. In my opinion, UVa, the William & Mary and UMd. are wonderful schools. There’s no reason for most kids who would be in-state at those schools, and maybe get some merit aid, to spend an extra $200,000 or more over four years to go to other schools. No decent, polite, honorable Harvard alum is really going to look down on an equally bright person who went to UMd. because of financial constraints. People who look down on other people because family finances affected their school choices are shallow boneheads, and that kind of snobbery is a stain on Harvard’s reputation, not UMd.’s. But, on the other hand, Harvard has a beautiful campus in a fun city, with superb public transportation and excellent access to fun jobs and internships. A lot of its student organizations and support services, such as its school paper, are the best in the world. Maybe an English professor would be a jerk, but, if you have a job at the Crimson or the Lampoon, why would you care about an occasional bad English teacher? So, Harvard might not be worth $200,000 more than UVa, but it’s a wonderful place for a student who can afford it. Another consideration is that Harvard offers excellent financial aid. That means that, for many students, going to Harvard will be much cheaper than going to their community college and living at home. For those students, going to Harvard is a spectacularly good deal. |
