Can you explain why this is newsworthy?

A Biden appointee, a government employee with a high level of security clearance, charged with two felonies?

SB not resigned or been fired; still collecting a paycheck.

Why does SB still have level national security clearance?

From what I've read, he's been put on leave.

I don't know anything about the federal government's human resource policies, but I do know that it is standard practice in many jobs for people on administrative leave to continue to collect pay until their issue is resolved.

What is "level national security clearance" and how do you know--for sure--that SB still has it? Do you work in that office or in the office that provides security clearances?

Let's all just acknowledge the very colorful elephant in the room--the only reason this is newsworthy is because SB is an in-your-face gender fluid individual. I think this Forbes article summarizes really well the excessive interest on the right in this case.

GOP Jumps on Biden Official Sam Brinton's 2nd Theft Allegation -- Blames Wokeness

SB goes on trial on December 19. Let the legal process unfold and see what happens.

He most likely holds a Q Clearance. -I work for DOE

Anyone possessing an active Q clearance is always categorized as holding a National Security Critical-Sensitive position (sensitivity Level 3). Additionally, most Q-cleared incumbents will have collateral responsibilities designating them as Level 4: National Security Special-Sensitive personnel. With these two designations standing as the highest-risk sensitivity levels, occupants of these positions hold extraordinary accountability, having the potential to cause "exceptionally grave" or "inestimable" damage to the national security of the United States.

The two preceding PPs are suggesting that SB has a very high security level. Makes sense given that the individual works on nuclear issues. Therefore, the following statement from the DOE should reassure the PPs:

The DOE told Insider in a statement on Friday that the agency "takes criminal charges against DOE employees and clearance holders very seriously" as it said that "Sam Brinton, a career civil servant, is on administrative leave."

"The Department is limited by law on what it can disclose on personnel matters, such as an employee's clearance status," it said. "Generally, as the Department has previously stated, if a DOE clearance holder is charged with a crime, the case would be immediately considered by DOE personnel security officials, and depending on the circumstances, that review could result in suspension or revocation of the clearance."

Question to federal employees with similar level of clearance: clearly, SB is only charges, not convicted. He is presumed innocents even if there are video recordings of him stealing the suitcase. If he gets acquitted on technicalities (let's say there is no confession and the video will not be admitted into the evidence), will he still be allowed to keep the clearance?

What BS.
The taxpayers deserve to know if this person continues to draw a paycheck from tax payer's money and if this person continues to hold a security clearance.

In 2016, Brinton was a senior policy analyst for the Bipartisan Policy Center, lobbying for updated regulations so nuclear waste can be used to power advanced nuclear reactors.[21] In February 2020, the website of Deep Isolation, a Berkeley, California, nuclear waste storage and disposal company,[22] listed them as its Director of Legislative Affairs[23] and in May 2022 they were its Director of Global Strategy.[24] In 2022, Brinton's profile at the Department of Energy indicated their previous work with the Breakthrough Institute, the Clean Air Task Force, and Third Way.[4]

Yahoo! Lifestyle noted that Brinton "may be the first openly gender-fluid person in federal government leadership" after they were selected by the Biden administration to be the deputy assistant secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy for the Department of Energy in January 2022.[6] In July 2022, South Florida Gay News reported that, according to Brinton, while they were "welcomed with open arms" at all levels of the organization, others reacted to their appointment with hatred and disgust, some making death threats against the self-described "Nuclear Nerd".[25][4]

In February 2022, an unidentified Department of Energy employee filed allegations of hiring malpractice with the Office of the Inspector General due to concern regarding Brinton's qualifications for a Senior Executive Service (SES) level position, i.e. "the class of federal career officials who rank just below top presidential appointees in seniority".[26]

Brinton supports the use of interim siting for radioactive waste to determine which sites and storage methods are best suited for future permanent repositories.[27]

As of November 2022, Brinton has been placed on leave by the Department of Energy, following their being charged with theft of airport luggage.[1][28]

Don’t know when Trump hired him, but it took me one second to google and find this. He was cited as a presidential advisor to trump in 2017.

Chris Christie’s drunken niece has a thread about her.

Can you explain what that is newsworthy?

+ a million
This is a DOE appointed official. Of course there should be a thread. Chris Christie's drunken niece isn't even in politics. Absurd.

It's really pretty astounding that SB stole *another* suitcase while being investigated for stealing the first one. That takes an unbelievable amount of arrogance.

Uh you’re wrong.

He came under investigation in October 2022 for the Minneapolis theft.

He stole the Las Vegas suitcase in July 2022.

I bet he’s been doing this for YEARS.

I’m sure these two examples are the ONLY times SB has done anything remotely illegal. It’s certainly not a pattern. Nah. I’m sure there’s not dozens of other instances just like this. Inconceivable!

The people who conducted them’s initial clearance investigation need to be fired. Along with the people who first granted them’s clearance after said investigation.

How was someone with such a backstory and so much 'damage' that they can't recall the name of their therapist get clearance at that level?

It could go either way depending on the facts. You don't have to be found guilty in a court of law to be determined to be ineligible for a clearance.
